A train station in Japan had plans to close but discovered that a student was the only one using it. For her, they kept the station running until she graduated high school.

The Kyu-Shirataki train station in Hokkaido, Japan, was kept open for three years for Kana Harada, a high school student who used it to commute to school.

The station was scheduled to close in 2016 due to low ridership. However, the station staff discovered that Kana was the only regular passenger and decided to keep it open for her.

The train stopped at the station twice a day, once to take Kana to school and once to bring her home. The train schedule was adjusted to match her school hours.

The station closed on March 26, 2016, the day Kana graduated.

The story became a symbol of the value of education and the power of small acts to make a big impact. Citizens applauded Japan's dedication to education. However, some mourned the decline of Japan's rural railways.
