Here’s an update from David Katznelson on a free projects that have been simmering on the stove for awhile, a much-needed remaster of Rocksteady icon Derrick Morgan’s DEVELOPMENT, and a collection of Roy Head’s singles output from Backbeat Records!

Construction at A. Hammer Annex is complete! We are thrilled with the look and feel of the creative space that interns Case Newcomb and Christopher De Meo and owner Gary Hobish were able to bring to the room.

Here are views of our control/ monitor center, the entrance to our iso booth and the client area. While we can’t yet have a real “opening party,” we’d love to have you come by for a tour and a conversation!

You want some 6 feet tall custom Super Chunk bass traps designed and built by our world famous interns Christopher De Meo and Case Newcomb? You got it!! Now we can let our new subwoofer loose! They even color-coordinated the traps with the booth. Who ARE these guys?

Shout out to the folks at Redco Audio who built the connection plate in our roomy vocal booth! The versatile setup, based on an inexpensive 3-gang electrical plate includes ports for 2 stereo headphone mixes (with options for XLR sends/ returns), 2 mic/line send, USB3 computer connection, HDMI for clear video mirroring and full duplex ethernet. Design was easy, Redco’s Chris Stubbs was super helpful, cost was super reasonable and service was fast! Our own Christopher De Meo designed the surface mounting box and it was finished off with black vinyl wrap. Nice job, all!

Christopher De Meo went overtime cutting and hanging the finishing slats for the wall treatment this week. It came out so nice. Maybe he and Case Newcomb hired some else to do the work for them when I wasn’t looking!

We received our desk!! Found the perfect size and features for this room. Case Newcomb assembled our new workstation desk in record time, and owner Gary Hobish customized the wheel mounts to make them much sturdier than the original. This will give us the flexibility to move things around as needed so we can adapt A. Hammer Annex to many purposes.

Nice progress on the wall treatments! will have a warm, comfortable atmosphere perfect for voiceover and vocal overdub performances! Opening soon, watch this space!

Making progress. We got some nice tan and orange canvas mounted in the main room and vocal booth. Lovin’ the aesthetic! It adds a nice warm vibe to the studio.
Canvas can be a tough material to work with though.. Looking forward to being done with that stuff!

Good news, everyone!
A. Hammer Mastering is expanding! Introducing, A. Hammer Annex for Voice-overs and more!

When we brought A. Hammer Mastering to its current location at Secret Studios in 2003, it was our hope to include the world of voice-overs in our services--recording and editing VO’s using internal and outside talent, narration, ADR work, and more. However, the reality was the Mastering studio environment (Gary Hobish’s primary focus for almost 40 years), didn’t lend itself properly for that kind of work to be done in a professional manner. Since that is the only way we work, that part of the business was put aside.

But NOW, in the room right next door, we are taking the opportunity to build out A. Hammer Annex--a new facility with a proper vocal booth whose focus will be voice-overs, overdubs, ADR, podcasts, and video and audio editing. In concert with the Mastering suite next door, A. Hammer Annex will provide first-class quality sound for your commercial, film, game, podcast, multimedia and Internet audio projects.

And of course, A. Hammer Mastering will continue its highly rated menu of mastering services in its current location. 40 Years of Ears- A Musical Approach to a Technical Art!
