Congrats to both Alan and Beyrick for taking first and second place and making it through to the next round of the ISA World Championships for a crack at qualifying for a spot in the Olympics.
The surf community truly is an extraordinarily, special tribe! No matter where you are on our planet, it’s a pretty tight knit crew, locally and on a global level. Even if you’ve never met, or are just meeting for the first time, it’s so cool how somehow you’re always connected through a long time mutual surf buddy that you’ve known forever or through someone you’ve recently met and/or someone you’ve met along your surf travels. Of course we’ve all heard about the hierarchy, and the OG locals only vibes, but when it comes down to it and it gets real, the best of them have each others back. Big thanks and mad respect go to Koa Smith, a Pro surfer from Hawai‘i, who heard about Jared’s mom dealing with terminal cancer, and the challenging financial situation they are facing. Even though Koa was traveling half way around the world in Indonesia, he managed to make a plan to organize one of his legendary personal signed @pyzelsurfboards “Ghost” model surfboards in California, ready to be auctioned to have a mates back, and do what he could to help alleviate the stress and hopefully lift the weight of the burden Jared’s family has being feeling. Thank you Koa for taking the time to promote and be a part of this very deserving initiative, to help make cancer comfortable for Maria. Mad respect for stepping up to help a brother (Saffa bru) out. We’re also blown away by the support shown by the other pro surfers who are stepping up to show their support and reach our goal. Donate Here - https://gofund.me/ad78e4fb Unfortunately most of us have been affected by cancer in one way or another, whether it’s been on a personal level, a family member, or someone in our close circle. Recently that happened to a couple good friend of ours. When Beyrick found out about his dad’s diagnosis a couple weeks ago, he reached out to his mates and said that he wanted to take that overwhelming feeling of hopelessness he had, and channel it into bringing hope to a family that needed it most.
He’d found out that his friends mom, Maria had been given a year to live, and being in a tough financial position, his friend Jared was going to have to leave his mom to go oversees to work in order to support her. Beyrick decided that he wanted to raise enough funds for the family to take care of all their financial burdens, so they could be together during this time, without any added stress, allowing them to cherish and take full advantage of the time they have left together. The goal is to help make cancer as comfortable as we can for Maria and her family.
