Could you feed your family with just 9 cents? 💰🍽️ Meet Rahima, a single mother living in the heart of Kutupalong refugee camp in . Her story is a testament to the unwavering strength and resilience of families.

👩‍👧‍👦Rahima's family is among the 1 million Rohingya who fled violence in Myanmar seven years ago. Unimaginable hardships have marked their journey, but they've found solace in assistance from the World Food Programme (WFP).

🍚For Rahima and countless others, WFP assistance has been the lifeline that ensures they don't go to bed hungry. However, there's a growing crisis - shrinking donor funds are threatening this vital support system.

💵Since March 2023, WFP's food assistance has been slashed from $12 to $8 per person per month - that's less than 9 cents per meal.

🥒🥚Before the ration cuts, Rahima could use WFP's food vouchers to purchase essentials like eggs, fruits, and fish, ensuring her family had access to nutritious meals. But with the recent reductions, their options have become more and more limited.

💬Rahima's words resonate deeply: "Previously, we could eat three times a day, but now we've had to cut down to two meals. We are just somehow managing.

"How can we survive? If I buy one food, I have to skip the other. We don't have the money to buy food from elsewhere."

Without the ability for Rohingya families to leave camps or take on employment, WFP assistance remains their ONLY access to food.

We urge the world - do not forget the Rohingya people. 💙

On this Museum Monday we see that the duties and responsivities of National Park Service Interpretive Rangers are varied. They include conducting educational programs, guided tours, and interpretive talks to educate visitors. But these duties also include protecting and preserving the natural and cultural resources within the park and monitoring for any potential threats or damage. At the Eisenhower National Historic Site, this includes contributing to the protection of numerous historical artifacts. including several vehicles garaged on site.

This photo shows an Eisenhower interpretative ranger cleaning and polishing the chrome bumpers and trim on the Eisenhower Presidential limousine. This is being done to protect it against corrosive elements, such as rust, dust, and other particles that can damage or change the appearance of the chrome.

Can you guess what this item from our museum collection is?

If you’re stumped, it’s the Eisenhowers’ silent butler. In the early to mid-1900s, hosts and servants used silent butlers to gather up and dispose of cigarette ashes. The handle of this silent butler had a thumb lever to open and close the lid. Traditionally, silent butlers were designed to be beautiful as well as practical, often featuring attractive patterns like the floral engravings shown here. Master Sergeant John Moaney, Ike’s valet and constant companion, would have used this silent butler to clear out ash trays throughout the Eisenhower home. Ike began smoking while attending West Point and smoked up to four packs a day during his military service. He quit smoking cold turkey in 1949 at the age of 59. Mamie, however, continued smoking until she passed away in 1979. When the Eisenhowers hosted their friends, they often smoked together. The Eisenhowers kept the silent butler pictured here in one of the sideboards in their dining room.
