SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo, Texas, is known for its rich history and charming small-town atmosphere, but beneath the surface, it holds stories that send chills down the spine. Two of the most talked-about haunted myths of this West Texas town are the Fear Station Railway and the House of Lost Souls. Both locations, steeped in myth and mystery, have become synonymous with the unexplained and the eerie.
Fear Station Railway: Ghosts of the Tracks
Fear Station Railway, located near the famous Fort Concho in historic downtown San Angelo, has long been a focal point for ghost hunters and thrill-seekers. Local legend has it that the area was once home to a railroad depot that served as a major transit point in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Visitors and residents alike have reported hearing the ghostly sounds of a train whistle, despite the tracks being long out of service. Some say that spectral figures can be seen walking along the tracks or waiting at what would have been the depot and occasional sightings of the "Conductor," a ghostly figure dressed in old-fashioned uniform, is said to appear during foggy nights.
The most chilling of these tales is a mysterious phenomenon, rumored to occur at dusk as elderly residents sleepwalk to the train station, where they have been witnessed to board the train, take their seats, and stare off into space, as they await the train’s departure.
Witnesses describe feeling a sudden drop in temperature and an overwhelming sense of dread, as though they are being watched as they pass the train. Though the Fear Station Railway is no longer an active part of San Angelo's transportation infrastructure, it remains a site of intrigue and a popular stop for those seeking the supernatural.

SAN ANGELO, TX — After nearly 20 years at its current location on Knickerbocker Road, Gil’s Restaurant is moving. The beloved, family-owned Mexican eatery will close its doors at 837 Knickerbocker Rd. on December 29, 2024, and plans to reopen at a larger venue at 3020 N. Chadbourne. The reopening date has yet to be announced.
The Garcia family, who have owned and operated Gil’s for over two decades, credits their success to a strong sense of community—both among staff and customers. Jason Garcia, the owner, said that everyone working at Gil’s is either family or feels like family, which has helped foster the restaurant’s close-knit atmosphere. The warm, welcoming vibe, especially during breakfast, has made it a favorite among locals.
Jason explained that his parents, who have extensive experience in the restaurant business in San Angelo, were the driving force behind the establishment’s early success. He said their dedication to the restaurant and to the community has been integral to Gil’s growth.
The decision to relocate comes after 19 years at the current Knickerbocker location. Jason Garcia acknowledged that while it’s always difficult to move on, sometimes change is necessary. “Sometimes, things just don’t work out, and sometimes you have to take an alternative path,” he said.
The new location on Chadbourne Street, which is significantly larger, will allow Gil’s to accommodate larger parties and better serve both regulars and new customers. Jason is optimistic that the move will allow the restaurant to continue growing and making new memories with its loyal patrons.
Gil’s has long been a cornerstone of San Angelo’s dining scene and, despite the move, the Garcia family is committed to remaining a town favorite. As they prepare for their next chapter, the restaurant's loyal customer

Lisa Hernandez Casillas, a small business owner in San Angelo, has become a beloved figure in the community, known for her strong work ethic, magnetic personality, and relentless determination to build her own American dream.
While initially the story centered around Casillas’ decision to treat her employees to an all-expenses-paid casino trip, it quickly evolved into a profile of a woman who worked tirelessly to create a thriving business. Her journey to success was not handed to her; rather, it was earned through hard work, resilience, and a deep commitment to her community.
Casillas, 50, has worked multiple jobs throughout her life. Currently, she holds three positions. She has been employed with Walgreens in downtown San Angelo for 27 years, primarily for the health benefits. Additionally, she does voice work for advertisements at a local Hispanic radio station.
Her path to business ownership began in Chicago, where she started working for Walgreens in 1999. In 2007, she transferred to the company’s San Angelo location on Abe Street. Tragically, her husband passed away in 2013, a loss that prompted her to take on a second job at a local bar called Eva's. She worked there from 2013 to 2015, gaining valuable experience in the bar business and learning the ins and outs of bar management.
“I always knew I wanted to own a bar,” Casillas said. “After working in the industry for so many years, I knew I could create something special— a place that felt like home for both customers and employees. I wanted to build a thriving business with a culture of appreciation.”
In 2015, Casillas took a bold step and purchased the bar, renaming it Lisa’z Bar. Since then, it has become a cornerstone of the community, known for its warm atmosphere and a focus on both customer and employee satisfaction. Casillas says she’s passionate about providing her e
