Underdog Travis Griffith Defeats Mike Hernandez by Executing Four Brilliant Strategies

By: Matt Cutrer
Posted Tuesday, June 18, 8:00 AM

SAN ANGELO, TX (Opinion) — Travis Griffith has emerged victorious as San Angelo’s new Chief of Police, decisively defeating Lt. Mike Hernandez after a closely contested runoff election concluded on Saturday, June 15.

Griffith's victory followed a campaign marked by strategic excellence, where he effectively distinguished himself during the extended runoff period.

Despite Lt. Hernandez's extensive qualifications, higher departmental ranking, prior campaign experience, and public recognition, Griffith's team outmaneuvered their opponent through four key strategies: a robust ground game, strong community engagement, adept control of public perception, and the creation of a compelling movement.

Effective Ground Game:

The Griffith campaign launched a highly organized ground game early on, deploying a large team to distribute yard signs, canvass neighborhoods, and disseminate campaign materials. This grassroots effort garnered significant community support, pivotal in swaying undecided and unregistered voters during the runoff.

Community Engagement:

In terms of community engagement, while both candidates maintained a presence at various events and gatherings, Griffith deepened his connection with voters on personal issues beyond policy, fostering a dedicated support base.

Managing Public Perception:

Strategically, Griffith also adeptly managed public perception, subtly aligning his campaign with a call for change and transparency in contrast to the perceived status quo associated with Lt. Hernandez and the current administration.

Creating a Movement/Cause:

Furthermore, Griffith capitalized on creating a movement, aligning his campaign with the reformist ideals of his supporters and effectively expanding his base after uniting with supporters of former candidate Chris Cimino.

Result:

Ultimately, Griffith's multifaceted approach paid off as he secured crucial swing voters and expanded his support base significantly, leading to an unprecedented turnout increase from the initial election in May to the decisive runoff in June.

In conclusion, Travis Griffith's campaign stands as a testament to strategic prowess and effective ex*****on, securing him a place in local election history with a resounding victory over Lt. Mike Hernandez.

That’s worthy of sharing I’d say. Wow!

When the Titanic sank, it carried millionaire John Jacob Astor IV. The money in his bank account was enough to build 30 Titanics. However, faced with mortal danger, he chose what he deemed morally right and gave up his spot in a lifeboat to save two frightened children. Millionaire Isidor Straus, co-owner of the largest American chain of department stores, "Macy's," who was also on the Titanic, said, "I will never enter a lifeboat before other men." His wife, Ida Straus, also refused to board the lifeboat, giving her spot to her newly appointed maid, Ellen Bird. She decided to spend her last moments of life with her husband.

These wealthy individuals preferred to part with their wealth, and even their lives, rather than compromise their moral principles. Their choice in favor of moral values highlighted the brilliance of human civilization and human nature.

Local Musician Daycee Oswald & Bearded Barista Offering Workshop for Kids
By: Matt Cutrer
Posted: Thursday, June 13, 6:25 PM

SAN ANGELO, TX — Daycee Oswalt is a local, passionate musician and educator, who is set to embark on a musical journey with children through a unique six-week workshop centered on the art of the ukulele. Aimed at nurturing young talent and fostering confidence in music, Oswalt's workshop promises to be an enriching experience for participants.

Designed to introduce kids to the fundamentals of ukulele playing, including strumming techniques, chord progressions, and even songwriting, the workshop provides a perfect platform for budding musicians. The ukulele, often overshadowed by its larger counterparts. Oswald explained that,

"The ukulele is a fantastic instrument for young learners," said Oswalt. "It's compact, easy to handle, and allows kids to express themselves musically in a fun and creative way."

The event will be hosted by Bearded Barista, generously offering their conference room for the workshop sessions and their stage for the recital.

"We're thrilled to be part of this initiative," remarks a representative from Bearded Barista. "It's wonderful to see the community coming together to encourage artistic expression and skill development in our youth."

This inaugural ukulele workshop marks a significant milestone for San Angelo, offering children a rare opportunity to explore and embrace music in a structured and nurturing setting. With limited spots available, parents are encouraged to register their children early to secure a place in the program.

The workshop will run from July 9 to August 13, with sessions held every Tuesday from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Open to children ages 8 to 13, the workshop fee is $65 per participant, inclusive of all materials and instruction.
