An Open Letter to the Leaders of Somalia
Subject: Leadership Is a Trust- Not a Bargain with the Nation's Future
To whom it may concern,
Leadership of a nation is not a privilege for personal gain, nor a shelter for fear and silence. It is a profound responsibility- a trust placed upon you by the people and, ultimately, by history.
Somalia today faces existential challenges: threats from foreign actors, to its sovereignty, the suffering of its people, droughts, the erosion of national dignity, and the continued exploitation of division and weakness. In such moments, leadership demands courage, clarity, and sacrifice. Retreat, indecision, and submission are not neutrality-they are failures of duty.
Those place personal interests, foreign influence, or short-term political survival above the protection of nation commit a grave moral and national error. Political cowardice, when exercised at highest levels of power, becomes a form of betrayal. A leader who cannot stand firm when the country is under threat dishonors the office they occupy.
The Somali people do not require perfect leaders, but they do demand honest ones-leaders who will defend sovereignty, safeguard civilians, protect national resources, and act beyond clan loyalties or external pressure. If such responsibilities cannot be met, then the honorable path is to step aside and allow others to serve.
Power is temporary. Positions expire. But legacy endures. History will remember who stood for the nation in its most critical hour-and who chose comfort over courage.
This is a call not rooted in anger, but in duty. Somalia deserves Leadership defined by bravery, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the people it serves.
History is watching. People are watching. And time will render its final judgement.
Respectful,
Abdirahman Warsame Osman
