Words move the soul in ways that can move a nation (Castelli).
Alyssa Dufort, a freshman majoring in clinical counseling psychology, has had a beautiful talent since eighth grade for writing poetry.
“Poetry makes me feel like I don’t have limitations or barriers,” said Dufort. “Sometimes I take a while to start writing, though once I do, I’m flying.”
Although Dufort enjoys experimenting with many styles, her most written themes are fantasy, historical inspiration, and reflections on her own experiences.
Since Dufort is on the spectrum, and communicating with others may be hard sometimes, she expresses the words through sophisticated writing, using poetry as a shooting mechanism.
“For some miraculous reason, when I try to express myself with a pattern or rhyme, it’s easier,” said Dufort.
Poetry's ability to represent an idea in a hundred various ways is what makes it so beautiful, and if someone wants to write, remember that “you can find inspiration from anything, anywhere,” said Dufort.
