Schuetzenfest Set-up Night Planned
The Altamont Schuetzenfest Board members will be setting up for the Schuetzenfest on Wednesday, September 10 and Thursday, September 11 beginning at 5 p.m. at the Effingham County Fairgrounds.
The public is welcome and encouraged to help with set up.
A meal will be provided for all volunteers.

The event is hosted by theBrownstown/St. Elmo Sports Boosters at Brownstown Elementary 460 W. South St. Brownstown.

Labor Day City Wide Garage Sales
St. Elmo City Wide Garage Sales will be held on Saturday, August 30 from 8 a.m. until ? Labor Day weekend.
There will be food, farmers market, junk, crafts, and antique flea market.
Vendors are needed. For a 12 x 15 space the cost will be $5.
If you are a not for profit organization, you can rent a space for a bake sale, food stand, etc.

St Elmo/Brownstown JH Softball Practice
St Elmo/Brownstown JH Softball is open to any girl entering into sixth, seventh, or eighth grade at St Elmo or Brownstown schools. Practice starts Monday July 28 9-11 a.m. at Deken park.

Rep. Cavaletto to meet with constituents in Brownstown
Salem IL… State Representative John Cavaletto (R-Salem) will host satellite office hours in Brownstown on Thursday, July 24.
Rep. Cavaletto will be available to constituents from 10:30 AM – Noon on Thursday, July 24 at the Brownstown Village Hall, located at 114 W. Main St. in Brownstown. No appointments are necessary.
“I wanted to hold satellite office hours to easily give the residents of my district a chance to discuss their concerns with me. I look forward to meeting with Fayette County constituents Thursday,” Rep. Cavaletto said.
“It’s my goal to hold as many traveling office hours in as many communities as I can. But if you can’t make this event in Brownstown, you can always come by my office in Salem. My door is always open,” Cavaletto added.

Vacation Bible School
Liberty Christian Church of Brownstown will be having their vacation bible school the week of June 16-20 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Theme for this year will be Weird Animals “Where Jesus’ Love Is One-of-a-Kind.

PAWS TO READ AT THE ALTAMONT PUBLIC LIBRARY
Kids of all ages are invited and encouraged to take part in the Altamont Public Library's Summer Reading 2014. This summer the theme is Paws to Read, with new reading materials and programs focusing on our furry friends! The reading program is a wonderful way to encourage children to use the library, have fun and keep up the reading skills they have gained throughout the school year. Pop in the library anytime during the last week in May or the first week in June to get your children, ages 2 through teens signed up for the program, and while you are at it, check out a summer 'read' for yourself. Details and reading requirements for each age group will be available at registration. If your family does not yet have a library card, our friendly staff can help you with that essential piece of equipment to assure a fun and cool summer, while you Paws to Read!

USPS Hours Changing
Effective June 1, 2014 the St. Elmo Postal Office is changing their hours.
The new hours will be Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; closed from 12 to 2 p.m.; then open from 2 to 4 p.m. (close).
Saturday hours will be 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Post office mail available at 9 a.m.
