Deuteronomy 10:13-16:

To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good? [14] Behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens is the LORD'S thy God, the earth also, with all that therein is. [15] Only the LORD had a delight in thy fathers to love them, and he chose their seed after them, even you above all people, as it is this day. [16] Circumcise therefore the fo****in of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked.

[ Notes for Deuteronomy 10:20 ]

[10:20] “Your oaths must be in his name alone” means that God alone should have his people’s allegiance.

Proverbs 1:28-33:

Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: [29] For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: [30] They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. [31] Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. [32] For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them. [33] But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

[ Notes for Proverbs 1:28 ]

[1:23-28] God gladly pours out his heart and makes known his thoughts to us. To receive his words, however, we must be willing to listen. Not paying attention to God, refusing to listen to him, ignoring his advice, and rejecting his correction are all evidences of pride. Pride is thinking more highly of our own ideas and courses of action than God’s. If we think that we know better than God or that we have no need of his direction, we are showing that foolish pride has a grip on our hearts. And pride is so dangerous because it hardens our hearts against the only one who can help us see what is really true and help us live in a way that is truly free.

Matthew 6:13-18:

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. [14] For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: [15] But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. [16] Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. [17] But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; [18] That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

[ Notes for Matthew 6:11 ]

[6:11] When we pray, Give us today the food we need, we acknowledge God as our sustainer and provider. He gives us physical strength, wisdom, courage, and the Holy Spirit to lead us each day. As we pray this prayer, we confess that we did not create ourselves and that we are not self-sufficient. We must trust God daily to provide what he knows.

1 Thessalonians 2:11-17:

As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children, [12] That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory. [13] For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe. [14] For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews: [15] Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men: [16] Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to fill up their sins alway: for the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost. [17] But we, brethren, being taken from you for a short time in presence, not in heart, endeavoured the more abundantly to see your face with great desire.

[ Notes for 1 Thessalonians 2:18 ]

[2:18] Satan is real. He is called “the god of this world” (2 Corinthians 4:4) and “the commander of the powers in the unseen world” (Ephesians 2:2). We don’t know exactly what hindered Paul from returning to Thessalonica—opposition, illness, travel complications, or a direct attack by Satan—but Satan had worked in some way to keep him away. Many of the difficulties that prevent us from accomplishing God’s work can be attributed to Satan (see Ephesians 6:12).

Psalm 104:25-28:

So is this great and wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts. [26] There go the ships: there is that leviathan, whom thou hast made to play therein. [27] These wait all upon thee; that thou mayest give them their meat in due season. [28] That thou givest them they gather: thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good.

[ Notes for Psalm 104:20 ]

[104:1-35] This psalm poetically summarizes God’s creation of the world as found in the first chapter of Genesis. The writer mentions what God created each day as a reason to praise God. On day one, God created light (Psalm 104:1-2; Genesis 1:3); day two, the heavens and the waters (Psalm 104:2-3; Genesis 1:6); day three, land and vegetation (Psalm 104:6-18; Genesis 1:9-13); day four, the sun, moon, and stars (Psalm 104:19-23; Genesis 1:14-16); day five, fish and birds (Psalm 104:12, 25-26; Genesis 1:20-23); and day six, animals, people, and food to sustain them (Psalm 104:21-24, 27-30; Genesis 1:24-31). God’s act of creation deserves the praise of all people.
