Hi Friends! It's been exciting to see how The Shift is making people think. If you want to hear the feedback from Brock Heasley and Angel Studios about the The Shift Film then Friday December 22nd is the day.
......

Repost from Cara Cotham from The Shift Fan Club . Cara is my beautiful friend who contributed massively and curated so much content to Vol. 13 about The Shift Film, The Chosen TV Series and The Orbit Around Matthew S. Nelson & Dan Haseltine (the composers of both productions.......

So excited about the livestream this Friday! And grateful for Brock Heasley who continues to walk alongside us on this wild and spiritual journey. Love his words here:

“Truly enjoying reading everyone's takes and insights on The Shift. I don't know which is more satisfying--when you uncover a hidden meaning or secret that I absolutely intended, or when you discover something I didn't even know was there!

Honestly, I think I worked on this movie for so long and was so mired in technical details and things like trying to meet a certain running time and working with our composers to nuance the score just right that I forgot about a lot of what I'd written in years ago! Plus, we cut so much out of the movie I wasn't entirely sure how much was actually still in there. I'm pleased to say: quite a lot.

But sometimes, you're reminding me! Consider the comments on this post a safe space to talk about the film freely and with SPOILERS. Ask questions, challenge the film, complain, sing its praises, whatever you want. Maybe I'll even drop a nugget or two below (believe it or not, there are still some big ones I haven't seen mentioned anywhere).

Again, SPOILERS below! Don't read past these initial scribblings if you haven't seen the film.

ONE LAST THING:
In case you missed it, I will be doing one last livestream this year on Dec. 22 at 6pm PT to discuss the impact of the Shift and showcase the feedback we've been getting. I should have anticipated it with a movie as different as this one, but the response really has been unlike anything else I can remember. Looking forward to diving in.

Repost from Cara Cotham

There’s hardly a soul on this planet that has not had to survive something beyond what they could imagine. I certainly have and Brock Heasley has a story too.

We all have looked evil in the face at some point…more opportunities to learn to overcome it.

Sometimes we feel we’re being tested like Job in the Bible…maybe we are.

As believers we have the power within us to overcome the darkness because we are lights shining brightly, even if your light seems dim at times.

We all need encouragement and hope and this movie reminds us of that. There’s another major shift coming and The Shift Film is coming to the big screen in the perfect timing of God as a reminder to know you can overcome and let your light shine.

I feel calm.

Everyone has been asking me the same question over the past week, so I figured I’d get that out of the way first.

How do I feel? I feel calm.

No, that’s not exactly how I expected to feel. As I write this, this movie I’ve been working on for eight years—this beast, this albatross, this joy, this wannabe homewrecker, this achievement, this soul expression, this weight, this…this piece of art—is about 2 days away from being released fully into the world. No matter what happens, good or bad, everything changes this weekend. I will lose control of this thing and I will let it go and our lives will be different. One way or another.

The Shift is the story of one man trying to hold onto hope in the darkest of circumstances. The parallel is unmistakable with my own life. At several points. And goodness knows, I am not unique. You’ve got or had or will have your dark circumstances, too. We all do.

And that makes the joy of this moment so, so potent.

Last night, The Shift had it’s L.A. Red Carpet Premiere at The Grove in Los Angeles. A few weeks back, Taylor Swift premiered her concert film in that same space. She even sat in that chair I’m sitting in, right next to Beyonce, where Erin is sitting. That’s so weird! That’s the not the air I’m supposed to breathe.

I love the photo. I think it captures my wife and I perfectly. She is beautiful and full of life, and I’m doing…I’m doing a thing. I don’t know what I’m doing. Doesn’t matter. Look at Erin.

We were surrounded last night by actors, agents, friends, executives, family, co-workers, confused movie patrons just trying to buy popcorn, and lancers. Lancers, for those who don’t know, are the stormtrooper figures in The Shift. They came out of my head and I chose their name with about 10 seconds of thought. Now, they are real (well, movie-real) and people say their name like it makes sense and is normal even though it’s not and no one really knows WHY they’re called lancers (don’t worry, I do). They even do crazy TikTok dance videos.

Something jumped out of my head and now dances on TikTok. Like some weird, real life Harold and the Purple Crayon insanity. 2023 is wild, yo.

I don’t know what’s about to happen. The movie could bomb! I don’t know! But I know we made the thing. And in making the thing, well, you get all of this.

After the movie played for our special, L.A. audience, we did a Q+A in front of the audience. Me, Producer Ken Carpenter, Kristoffer Polaha (Kevin), and Neal McDonough (The Benefactor). I was asked something like “What does it feel like to be here tonight and see this movie on this screen?”

And I think my initial response was, “Inevitable.” Like I’m Thanos or something. But I explained it like this: I’ve been imagining this week—last night—for so long and held this goal so tightly in mind and maintained the vision of this time so firmly, that of course this is all what would be happening right now. Even the Taylor Swifty/Beyonce of it all. Sure. Why not? Of course.

And I’m—hopefully—not saying that out of any kind of arrogance. I only mean “inevitable” in the sense that I embarked on this journey in the first place because I felt led to do so, by Him, and I never thought that was for nothing. I can’t explain it, I can’t put into words how it feels, but it’s a knowing that’s sustained me for 8 years.

Except when it didn’t. And when it didn’t, I had the most incredible, gorgeous woman in the world by my side telling me I was not worthless, not untalented, not a bad father, not a lousy husband, not a terrible provider, not a hack, and not whatever else the voices who would sometimes and with great certainty rise against me would say that I am.

It is true that I’ve held on for 8 years in faith. It is false to say that in that time I never doubted.

It cannot be overstated how much none of this week would be happening without Erin by my side. There is no one who has believed in me more fiercely, and no one who has been given more reasons not to.

So, I am calm on the eve of the release of my first movie, one of the biggest events of my life in which everything could go wrong and everything could go right, and the consequences will be massive either way. And why am I calm?

Because I did what I was asked to do. And she is still by my side.
