🎁 I’m at the point in the year where I really feel I can do no more! Though I’d love to share my advice to help you find some magical gift, when I think about the most meaningful gift ever given me, it’s been the gift of W O R D S.

I always love to think about some of the words my mom left with me, and to be honest, I don’t have to think too much because the words are etched in my brain and I hear them all of the time! I hope that her words might be ones you share as a gift to your loved ones this year. What I love most about her words is that they are simple, to the point, and probably words she never realized would have such an impact on me.

Just to let you know a little bit about my mom—

She loved her family with her entire being. There was nothing greater for her. She dedicated her life to caring for her disabled sister. She loved my dad, my siblings, and me, and she loved ALL living things…plants, pets, squirrels, children, and the most vulnerable in our community.

She loved to shop for gifts for others, and she loved to spoil everyone on their birthdays and at Christmas! When my kids were little, we’d arrive at her house on Christmas find a mountain of presents wrapped under the tree…each one better than the next. Kohl’s, QVC, and Macy’s were some of her favorites.

She never wanted any attention. She was quiet and gentle. She could not understand why anyone would ever want a social media account, much less have their picture taken!! 😜

So here are some of my favorite words from my mom, that I hope inspire you:

“This whole house could burn down and I’d still be happy, as long as I have my family.”

“You don’t need any make-up.”

“The mess will still be here tomorrow. How about we have a cuppa coffee?”

“Let’s have some fun! Would the kids like to go to Playland?”

“Just do it, Liz.”

“You are ambitious!”

If you are reading this, I am forever grateful for all of the support and encouragement YOU have given to me over the past 6 years and I cannot express how thankful I am for these precious gifts: “Keep going!” “You’ve got this.” “Go Liz!”...

🎁What inspired you to open your store, Dabyney Lee, and what makes your store special during the holidays?
I started out wholesaling stationery to boutiques across the country, and later opened my first retail shop in DUMBO, Brooklyn, followed by a second location on Shelter Island. When I moved to Rye, it only felt natural to open a shop here as well.

🎁I believe every town deserves a party store—a place where you can find all the perfect trinkets and decorations to make your celebrations shine! While you’re there, you’ll also find the perfect dress for any occasion, along with a gift or two for friends and family.

🎁How do you curate the perfect selection of holiday gifts for your customers?
I’m a total maximalist! The more, the merrier—and we embrace that every day here in our shop. After all, what’s better than festive crackers and confetti to make your holiday tables truly shine?!

🎁What’s your best-selling item this holiday season, and why do you think it’s so popular?
Our tree, adorned with thoughtfully curated ornaments, is a huge hit every year—and they don’t last long! It’s always exciting to see how quickly they sell, as people hand-pick the perfect ones for their friends and family. Each ornament tells its own story, and it’s such a joy to watch customers create their own personal collection to make their holidays even more special.

🎁Do you have a personal favorite gift or holiday tradition that you love sharing with your shoppers?
My favorite holiday tradition is setting the table for Christmas morning, serving my grandmother’s favorite dishes, and sharing stories from holidays past. I love adding special treasures from the shop to make the table feel extra festive and fun!nd fun!

🎁What do you hope kids and parents take away after shopping in your store?
Special moments are made of memories, not just things. But sometimes, being a little silly—like wearing fun Christmas tree glasses or headbands—adds that extra touch, turning a simple moment into a lasting memory.

In the spirit of the holiday season, I’m sharing stories about moms who spread holiday cheer. NEW today is Ryemarkable Sara Leand, owner of The Snackery!

👩🏻‍🍳What inspired you to create The Snackery, and how do you bring holiday cheer to your menu?
At The Snackery we are always trying to create happy memories and bring a smile to people’s faces through our treats. We have a cookie called the Happy Linzer that has a smile stamped into it and we also have a U Smile cookie in memory of my grandmother that is reminiscent of the 70’s iconic smile. That was her favorite and we donate a $1 of each cookie to Alzheimer’s research in her name.

🍩What are your must-try holiday treats this season, and what makes them stand out?
My favorite this season is our Big Debbie Holiday Zebra Cake.

🍰 Do you have a favorite snack or dessert that reminds you of the holidays?
My favorite treat at the holidays is our White Chocolate Peppermint Twinkies!

🎂How does The Snackery celebrate being part of the Rye community during the holiday season?
The Snackery loves taking part in Mistletoe Magic each year! We hope Rye had a lot and enjoyed all the unique treats this season.

🍪What’s YOUR favorite dessert to eat??
My favorite ..that’s tough! I love our Lil’Devil Red Velvet Ring Ding. That is absolutely one of my all time favorites right behind our Fancy Chocolate Chip Cookie.

Hi! We’re Amy and Gabby Damascus, the proud owners of **Santa’s Lil Helpers Lighting and Design**, a premium lighting installation and decorating company.

We’re overjoyed to be part of this incredible Christmas feature, celebrating all the joy and magic the season brings to Rye!

Our business was born out of a shared love for Christmas and a passion for all things festive. This is our third official season as a lighting company, but we’ve been spreading holiday cheer for years, decorating the homes of friends and family. For us, the magic of the season truly shines through in the connections we make and the smiles we see when homes light up with holiday spirit.

Our favorite part? Working with family! Our dream team includes my niece Paige, her husband Kyle, my sister Angela, and my children, Eva and Daniel and their girlfriends JoJo and Jess. Gabby’s boyfriend Jay has also joined the team, making this journey even more special. My husband John occasionally joins our team as well! Together, we create magic, often donning our **Santa’s Lil Helpers sweatshirts**, blasting Christmas tunes, and transforming homes into dazzling displays of holiday wonder.

Every project is unique. Some clients have clear visions for their homes, while others trust us to get creative. Either way, we pour our hearts into every design. Seeing the joy in kids’ faces as they watch their homes light up is the ultimate reward.

We’re also inspired by Rye’s vibrant holiday spirit. Driving through town, admiring the stunning lights and decorations is a highlight for us. And the town’s lighting, brought to life by the AprilMayJune Team, is nothing short of magical!

As a mother-daughter team, we’re grateful to live out our dream together, building something meaningful in a town we’ve loved for so many years. Thank you to our wonderful friends, family, and customers for your endless support—it’s what keeps us going, even on the coldest days!

What inspired you to start singing for children?
As a new mom, I explored activities for babies in Rye. My first child, Joe, loved the performer Ellen Watermelon shows so much that I became interested in the profession. I started teaching classes for the tiniest tots at the Rye YMCA and Rye Library. Ellen Watermelon introduced me to our community of infants, toddlers and preschoolers whose giggles, laughter and applause touched my heart. It’s so rewarding to work with children who through their interaction in the program are learning. I feel like I’m giving
back to the community.

How do you choose the songs you perform?
I include songs that educate, surprise and delight youngsters. I choose fun, educational themes for my shows about nature, animals, dinosaurs, transportation or seasons. My shows have touches of traditional Mother Goose lyrics to retain past practice and silly rhyming refrains like Madalina Catalina and Goo Goo and Gaga to make memorizing fun. I use props in my classes like instruments, scarves and shaker toys to encourage
children to move and dance. Incidental learning comes from seasonal songs such as “Mr. Sun” and holiday favorites like “Jingle Bells.”

What is your favorite part about sharing music with families?
Music brings our caring community closer together. Through the programs, children and adults make new friends and complement each other’s singing. I especially love when a child says, “Sing it again!” Each repetition increases participation. The best is when a
toddler wants to sing to the audience. I love watching children become confident
enough to perform.

What’s the best reaction you’ve received?
During my very first performance at the Rye YMCA, a little girl named Gabby Joyce, who is now an art director at an ad agency, applauded loudest of all. Her encouragement empowered me and here I am loving my job and today’s youngest members of our community twenty two years later. Who knew?

I hope kids and parents share a happy and positive experience together. Families that sing together are creating beautiful memories for their child. Hopefully this will pass on to the next generation.
