The weather is starting to warm up in Round Rock, Texas which means more live music at all of the venues with patio stages. “Music On Main” should be starting soon as well! I snapped a few shots of .bradley.atx last Saturday at . I had to get home to help my daughter with her piano homework from (she likes to get my feedback before she submits her assignments) otherwise I would have stayed for the whole show.

on - My first full band show of the year for Up Late Austin… There were (of course) 2 accidents on I-35 causing me to arrive at the studio an hour after I’d planned to arrive. Luckily, I had planned to arrive very early. With help from the rest of the crew, the show went out without a hitch but it was up against the wire!

Tune in on Monday night when I’ll be providing sound for Steve Deckel. Last week was my first week of taking over the A1 responsibilities for Up Late Austin. It’s a fun show to be a part of with a great crew and super talented musical guests.

On Monday, February 3rd, our musical guest is singer-songwriter Steve Deckel.

Originally from Kentucky, Deckel considers himself a wanderer and has lived in Oklahoma and Arizona, before settling in Austin, Texas. He released his latest project, “Metaphors,” back in 2023 and performs frequently at Three Legged Goat and the Black Sparrow.

Mahogany Jazz Hall All Stars at . This was my favorite venue over the two days we spent bouncing around New Orleans. The music was fantastic, the staff was great, the crowd was into the music and letting the good times roll. We liked it so much, we went two nights in a row and probably would have gone for a third if we were still around.

I don't know if this is a New Orleans thing or what - I can't recall ever seeing anything quite like it in all my years of playing music. During .lovechild 's set at a sax player walked in, opened his case, and started playing with his sax still resting in the case. I assumed he was arriving late from another gig. He stood there and played a few licks at appropriate moments until the singer came over and held a mic out for him to take a solo. It just happened that there was a fan on his side of the stage which blew her hair back right as she stepped towards him which was hilarious in person (you'll have to take my word for it). Within a song or two, he was onstage as if he were a member of the band. I asked him the name of the band on my way out the door and he didn't even know 🤣

.lovechild at 30/90 NOLA - another quality act on Frenchman Street... It would take me a very long time to get sick of Frenchman StreetLouisiana Lovechildrleans I believe. I must have spent 10-15 hours there while I was in New Orleans. I actually have a couple funny shots from this show that I'll post later once I have a chance to process and crop them.

at - I missed part of Youse’s set walking over from another venue, which was a shame, because they were great. Would love to see them again the next time I’m in New Orleans.

January 25th! Alan Jefferson Music is releasing his first album. Several of the tracks were recorded here at Electric Platypus. I can’t wait to hear the final product!

It is getting really close now. I've shipped off the masters for my 1st Album, Hourglass. The release date is January 25th. 11 songs. It will be on all of the streaming platforms and I will be making a limited run of CDs for those nostalgic folks out there. If I sense a good demand I might be persuaded to make vinyls. But I decided to hold off on that for a bit.

playing in downtown Round Rock during Hometown Holidays. I was looking through the photos that I took during the event and I think this is the last of them. I hope the city does it again next year. I thoroughly enjoyed popping out of the studio to check out everybody's sets!

I spent a couple of days vacationing in New Orleans last week and shot a ton of photos. I think I probably took 5000 exposures or more (I’ve winnowed those down to a few hundred that are worth the hard drive space they consume). I think I listened to nearly 20 hours of live jazz while I was there. The first act I saw was The Preservation All Stars ft. Wendell Brunious. I was expecting to hear great music but they also really put on a great show. I don’t think I’ll ever return to New Orleans without hitting while I’m there.
