At 2226 hours yesterday your Rossford firefighters were called to assist Perrysburg Township on a structure fire. This fire marks the first of many for Rossford Fire's brand new Engine 30. Great work to all crews tonight, and a big thank you for the citizens of Rossford for their support. As always Stay Strong, Stay Safe, and Stay Home.

From all of us at the Rossford Fire and Rescue Department, we’d like to wish everyone a safe and Happy Easter!

Please remember to social distance yourselves! The actions we take now will continue to have a positive impact from this point forward. As Chief Drouard stated yesterday, please remember that you are not in this alone. We are in this together and we will come out stronger in the end!

The Rossford Fire and Rescue Department along side the Rossford Police Department and other surrounding first responders took place in a Blessing of the Badges this morning at All Saints Catholic Church. Thank you Father Recker for blessing us all during this tough time!

From our friends at the City of Maumee Fire & EMS -
Reminder of the dangers of mixing household chemical cleaners. With the shortage of cleaning supplies and disinfectants please keep the following in mind:
1. Bleach + Vinegar= Chlorine Gas. Chlorine gas and water also combine to make hydrochloric acid and nypochlorous acids. This can cause severe respiratory distress.
2. Bleach + Ammonia= Chloramine. This can cause shortness of breath and chest pain.
3. Bleach + Rubbing Alcohol= Chloroform. This is highly toxic!
4. Hydrogen Peroxide + Vinegar= Peracetic/ Peroxyacetic acid. This can be highly corrosive.

A safe homemade cleaning solution is 10% diluted bleach. To make you need 1 part bleach to 9 parts water. Example: 1 cup of bleach to 1 gallon of water.

We would like to thank Maumee Bay Brewing Co. for the generous donation of 1 gallon of hand sanitizer !

Quick update on your Fire Department and COVID-19.

1 - We are still open and responding to calls.
2 - We are not currently conducting station tours, allowing visitors (even our own families), conducting in person training, accepting food donations or drop offs, or even coming outside to chat with folks.

To contact us in a NON emergency situation, please call 419 666 0210 extension 240 for the Duty Crew, extension 230 for the Fire Chief and extension 241 for the Asst. Fire Chief.

3 - Yes, we will respond when you call. Our residents have been great so far about not calling. Please ONLY call 911 for true, life threatening emergencies. When you do, stay on the line and answer all of the questions. Our 911 center is actively screening EVERY call for signs and symptoms of COVID-19. Please help us protect ourselves and our community. As a small department, the health of our employees means operational efficiency. We are practicing social distancing just as you are!
4 - Do not be alarmed if we show up at your house or a neighbors house and you see us wearing gowns, gloves, goggles, and facemasks. We are following CDC guidelines for all possible encounters. We have altered our operations and responses to protect you, our community, and ourselves.
5 - Please consult your Primary Care Physician for medical questions or for guidance in treatment if you are sick. They should be your first call unless you are in serious distress.
6 - Be aware, if you have signs and symptoms, but not serious respiratory distress, we will encourage you to seek care other than the ER. We, as a community, need to make sure to leave the ER for Emergencies. There are still strokes and heart attacks happening. If you go to the ER, you will be surrounded by other sick people. Our goal is to keep everyone as healthy as possible.
7 - Yes we are supporting our local restaurants and eating out when we can. Who doesn't love our Rossford business group!?! They're great!

Thank you for your support and for following the guidance being put out.

WASH YOUR HANDS and be kind to each other. (Thank you!)

This post is from our friend Chief Joe Kitchen of the Bath Township Fire Department near Lima, OH. We agree with his words. We hope you will follow them.

Message to the public: “If you plan to use your local EMS for treatment and transport of patients who are exhibiting any flu symptoms, please give the 911 operator detailed information about the symptoms the patient is exhibiting. Also, if the patient has recently traveled outside of the United States, that information is vital. Additionally, upon arrival of EMS personnel, please repeat that same information. I am sure everyone can understand how important it is for us to keep our firefighter/paramedics healthy. We will take all necessary precautions, however, the more information we have about the patient, the better.” - Chief Joseph Kitchen

Crews were very busy overnight answering 5 calls from 8 pm-7 am, for a daily total of 9 responses in a 24 hour period. Here are photos from the last response, a car fire on the Turnpike. No one was hurt, the fire was caused by a piece of debris on the roadway that ruptured something underneath the vehicle.

Feeling like a beautiful Spring day here at the Rossford Fire and Rescue Department.

Hopefully on this beautiful Monday you remembered to change your smoke detector batteries when you changed your clocks over the weekend. If not, do it! Smoke detectors save lives! Are you in need of a new one? They’re free to Rossford residents but quantity is limited. We’ll even install them if needed!

Tonight... grab some batteries while you're out today and change those detector batteries! Did you know even AC powered detectors have a battery backup? Replace your detectors if they are over 10 years old!
