A passing weather system will bring rain and snow to northern Illinois overnight starting as early as 10 PM west of I-39 and after midnight east of I-39. North of Interstate 88, a period of primarily snow is expected especially from midnight to daybreak Sunday, and possibly linger through 9 AM Sunday. With cooling temperatures toward the freezing mark and expected peak snow rates up to one half of an inch per hour, 1 to 2 inches of slushy snow may accumulate on bridges, overpasses, decks, and grass leading to locally slick road conditions. If planning to travel overnight and tomorrow morning, prepare for extra time and watch for slick spots, especially on bridges and overpasses.
