Traffic Alert 🚧❗️ The U.S. Army Garrison Rock Island Arsenal will close the Rock Island Viaduct between Rock Island and the Rock Island Arsenal for repairs beginning Monday, October 14 through Friday, October 25. Only during the biggest solar storms can you see the aurora emanating from straight overhead in Rochester, New York. Last night was one of those rare events. Camera pointed straight up as shades of pink, red & green rained down.

Talk about making an immediate impact.

K9 Wojtek was eager to get to work and a couple m**h peddlers were apparently as excited to meet him.

You know what they say, "Dreams don't work unless you do", so they decided to try to transport m**hamphetamine into Moline.

Trying to transport 3 pounds of m**hamphetamine into our community is one those high risk-low reward things teachers taught most of us in grade school.

This story isn't all sad for them, these guys will get regale to all of their future cellmates about the time they were K9 Wojtek's first big bust. They can tell their orange clothed buddies about how they sealed their m**h into plastic bags but that Ziploc freshness seal was no match for the Cedar Creek Kennel trained nose of K9 Wojtek.

K9 Wojtek and K9 Riggs are working nonstop to stem the flow of drugs into our community.

Great work K9 Wojtek, Officer Thornborough and the Detectives in the Special Investigations Group.

Beyond Van Gogh ends Thursday at Davenport's River Center.

While a couple of little girls petted Petey, my dog, a Channel Cat motors to the dock along Moline's Ben Butterworth Park. I wanted to take Petey for a ride on the water taxi. But "no pets allowed."

The video starts at Lock and Dam 15 on the east edge of downtown Davenport, a temporary Hesco flood wall on River Drive, the view across to Rock Island, and finally the view to the west featuring LeClaire Park and the baseball stadium. The Mississippi River was at 21.45 feet at the time or 6.45 feet over flood stage. That's more than a foot lower than the record high crest set in May, 2019 (22.7 ft.).

Sunset Park and Potter Lake are currently flooded by the Mighty Mississippi River in Rock Island.

Is anyone opposed to passenger rail between the Quad Cities and Chicago? Is anyone willing to stand up to defend Iowa Interstate Railroad, including IAISRR?

Andrew Yang, a Democratic presidential candidate, begins his final Iowa campaign stop in the Quad Cities. It was standing room only at the small coffee shop/bookstore located on Harrison Street in Davenport's Hilltop shopping district. This is from last week's sendoff of the Augie men's basketball team to the final four. The Vikings lost to Babson, 79-78 on Saturday. For a young team not expected to do well this season, finishing the season as NCAA D3 Runnerup is outstanding!!

WVIK News Editor

Officially, Michelle's title is WVIK News Editor which really just means she wears many hats, doing everything there is to do in the newsroom and around the radio station. She's a multimedia journalist and serves as Assignment Editor, reporter, radio news producer, copy editor, announcer, news anchor/host, and photographer. She also writes and produces content for WVIK.org and social media.

In last year's broadcast journalism contests, Michelle's work contributed to WVIK winning Outstanding News Operation in Illinois and first place in Overall Excellence in Iowa.

In the 2017 Iowa Broadcast News Association contest, Michelle placed first in "Overall Excellence in Reporting" and in "Sports Coverage" for her story, "World Series of Drag Racing."
