Jump in! That's what you do at DOWNTOWN JAZZ JAM. Musicians, whether beginners or seasoned players, never know exactly who they might be jamming with, or what songs they might be performing. There's no rehearsing. So, it's not perfect! But that format helps players share and grow, and creates some unexpected magical moments. The Music Club of Rock Hill invites the public to a free lecture at 3 pm on Sunday, Jan. 19, by Dr. Ron Parks of the Winthrop University College of Visual & Performing Arts. The lecture about Winthrop's new lab for Music IT will be held in the lab in the basement of Dacus Library at Winthrop. We had a fun time at DOWNTOWN JAZZ JAM tonight (Sun Jan 5) at The Power House in Rock HIll. In addition to many players from York County, we had musicians from Gastonia, Conover, Charlotte, and Columbia. We had a great crowd of folks enjoying the music. Our next monthly DOWNTOWN JAZZ JAM is 6-8 pm Sunday January 5, 2025 at The Power House in Rock Hill SC. Musicians of all ages and skill levels are welcome. And the public is invited to enjoy the music for free. We jam inside the Food Hall during inclement weather, and outside on the patio during great weather. Food and drink are available for purchase. DOWNTOWN JAZZ JAM celebrated its one-year anniversary Sun Nov 3 at The Power House in Rock Hill SC with a jazz workshop, jam session, and concert by The Mark Rapp Quintet. We had a great group of musicians and a fun crowd. Here are photos. We will post recordings soon. Thanks to our sponsors The Power House, Comporium, and Doctors Care. And thanks to our partners the Arts Council of York County, Winthrop University College of Visual and Performing Arts, and ColaJazz Foundation. Thanks to all the musicians who came out. Weather looks great for the DOWNTOWN JAZZ JAM one-year anniversary celebration this Sunday Nov. 3 at The Power House in Rock Hill. The forecast is for a sunny afternoon with a high temperature of 72 degrees. Bring your lawn chair! We have a 4 pm jazz workshop for all ages and skill levels, 5 pm open jazz jam session, and 6 pm concert by The Mark Rapp Quintet. Mark, a trumpeter, is the official SC Jazz Ambassador. Part of the Sunday, Nov. 3, one-year anniversary celebration of DOWNTOWN JAZZ JAM will be the FREE concert by The Mark Rapp Quintet. It starts at 6 pm on the outdoor stage at The Power House in Rock Hill. Bring your camp/lawn chair. Mark is the official SC Ambassador of Jazz. He leads the ColaJazz Foundation in Columbia, which promotes jazz music through education and performance.
