Minnesota's own punk rock goddess Cindy Lawson is opening for Everclear this Sunday at Riverside Music Series, and we had the pleasure of interviewing Cindy this spring at Mid West Music Fest. Rosei Skipper spoke with Cindy about starting her all-female rock band The Clams in the 80s, the history of the Minneapolis music scene, and what brought her back to the stage at age 62. Beth Sievers, Encaustic Artist will have a new exhibit running from June 18 to August 6th, with a Live Demonstration and Art Reception on Saturday, June 25 from 12-2! Singer/songwriter Eleanor Sievers will perform from 12-1pm and the jazz duo The D'Sievers will perform from 1-2pm. The exhibit will showcase how Beth's encaustic, large-format, two-dimensional pieces of art can be translated into smaller, functional pieces of art as encaustic earrings. She has taken salvaged items, like tree bark, discarded wooden shapes, and chipboard, and incorporated them to create a substrate using a process that she developed. Our evening with Dom Flemons at The Rochester Civic Theatre was just fantastic. Not only did Dom entertain us with his fantastic guitar, banjo, and harmonica skills, his storytelling was captivating. We learned so much about the history of black cowboys and music in the American West, and were treated to such a wide variety of musical genres and styles. It was a night we won't soon forget. This show was brought to you by Rochester Civic Music. There is one more of these intimate theatre shows this year - Mick Sterling’s “A Grand Ole Opry Christmas” on Saturday, November 26th.
