Pittsburgh, our dedicated police, through collaboration with the ATF and PPS officers, were able to interrupt what could have been a major act of violence near one of our schools. This is the second time this year that our officers, through their proactive policing and community partnerships, have been able to keep our city and our kids safe at school.

Might I Opine:
How old is Israel? 75 years old? Or thousands of years old? There’s always much debate on whether the Bible can be used as a historical reference so for the sake of this argument we will set aside its writings for now, and instead, we will look at other historical writings, literally carved in stone.

The Merneptah Stele is an engraved stone slab which describes Pharaoh Merneptah's military victories in 1207 b.c. Merneptah was the son of Ramesses II, also known as Ramesses The Great. It is believed that it was during the time of or just prior to Ramesess The Great that the exodus occurred of Israelis from Egypt, where Moses lead God’s people to the promise land.

That is where the Merneptah Stele comes into play. While speaking of Military battles, it mentions important victories, and one of those inscriptions reads; “Israel is laid waste, bare of seed.” There carved in stone more than 3200 years ago is the first mention of Israel, outside of the Bible itself. Prior to this time that region was called Canaan, and even after this parts of that region would still be called Canaan, while others were called, Judea, Samaria, the Galilee and Israel. There is no mention of the name Palestine.

Ancient Egyptians found Israel significant enough to mention them as a military victory for them, and carve it into stone. How accurate the account is about the degree of their victory is unclear but we know that political propaganda is not a modern tool, it was used in ancient days as well. The point being that Israelis have inhabited that ground for thousands of years, they are not colonizers or invaders. They simply went home to what they called thousands of years ago, the promise land. (DL)

IN VIRGINIA
On March 5, 2003 an unidentified male between the ages of 14-21 was found floating in the Elizabeth River near Harbor Park in , VA. It’s estimated he had been deceased about 7 days prior to being found.

He was found fully clothed wearing a black shirt, blue jeans with a brown leather belt with a buckle of a horse depicted on it, blue plaid boxers, black socks and brown Brahma brand work boots. No scars or tattoos were identified.

An anthropologist stated the remains represent an Asian male, with possible Caucasian racial admixture but other ethnic groups such as Hispanic or Mexican, cannot be ruled out.

The image featured is a facial reconstruction created by a Forensic Artist and depicts what the male may have looked like in life.
