Introducing “Tapestry in the IE: Biracial Threads of an Evolving Community”
According to Pew Research, "Multiracial Americans are leading the way in social and demographic shifts in the U.S.—they are young, proud, tolerant and experiencing growth at a rate three times faster than the overall population." The 2020 Census underscored this notable transformation. Surpassing changes in any other racial category, the number of people identifying as more than one race increased from 2.9% (9 million people) in 2010 to 10.2% (33.8 million people) in 2020. Join us for the launch of our new series, "Tapestry of the IE: The Cultural, Ethnic, and Racial Threads of an Evolving Community," where we'll delve into the messages within these numbers, while also exploring whether there is any correlation between the nation’s growing multiracial population and the increase in hate crimes.
This series is funded by the Stop the Hate campaign administered by the California State Library.
