This week we've given you 4 huge tips to help you create and sell gift baskets in your shop. Read ahead for the 3rd and final part to this mini series.

🎁 Add your finishing touches. A nice ribbon provides a professional finishing touch, holds everything together, and adds a pop of color to the finished basket. Create a tag that includes the price, bar code, item description, and item name to the basket. Don't forget to list your gift basket for sale on your website and social media!

🎁 Don’t forget branding! It’s a great idea to include a personal touch to your gift basket, like a small tag or thank you note. Include your website, social media links, and important business information, like your phone number or tagline. Your customers will be pleasantly surprised and may even visit your online shop to learn more!

Was this mini series helpful? Are you planning to add gift baskets to your shop offerings this year? Be sure to tag us in your gift basket photos so we can share and inspire others. Happy selling!

Yesterday we gave you some tips to get you started creating gift baskets in your farm shops. As promised, here is Part 2!

🎁 Make your merchandise the main focus. Put the product or service you wish to highlight as the center of the gift basket, and add corresponding items to fill in empty spots. The main item could be a bottle of wine, a gift card to your business, or a Christmas ornament. Use your imagination! Fill in any remaining spots with food or related merchandise. Another great idea is to work in collaboration with another local business. They can help sell your basket, and you are both exposed to new customers - a win win!

🎁 Price the basket fairly. Add up the cost of your merchandise, supplies, and labor, then add a markup. 30% - 50% is customary, but choose the markup that fits your business best. It’s also important to create gift baskets that are different price points. You know your customers best, but price points could be $29.99, $49.99, and $69.99 to appeal to different budgets.

Don’t miss tomorrow’s post for Part 3 in this series!

You asked and we listened! This is the first in a three part series this week about how to create and sell gift baskets in your farm shops! Read on below for some of our tips and ideas.

🎁 Start by picking a theme. Your customers will likely be buying your gift baskets as Christmas gifts for their loved ones, so be sure to offer a variety of themes that appeal to different occasions. Think: Moms Day Out, Hot Cocoa Kit, or Dog Lovers. Put yourself in the customer’s shoes. If you received the basket as a gift, would you say “Wow, where did you get this?!” That’s the reaction your customers should have.

🎁 Gather your supplies. Many gift basket supplies can be purchased in bulk online. Look for baskets in a variety of shapes and sizes, colorful crinkle fill or tissue paper, shrink wrap supplies or cellophane bags, and ribbon. When searching for items to include in your baskets, think about merchandise branded with your company logo. And don’t count out discount or dollar stores. You want to curate a mix of high and low end items to help create a cost effective, yet beautiful gift.

Stay tuned tomorrow for Part 2 in this series!

We love the idea of adding alternate revenue streams to your Christmas Tree farms this time of year, and adding pumpkins to your farm makes a lot of sense, both from a farming and marketing perspective. You’ve already got the land, and customers who buy pumpkins in October often come back to buy their Christmas Tree in December.

To those already growing pumpkins - what are some challenges you have faced? Is it worth the extra work to bring in an alternate revenue stream? What other crops have you experimented with? Let us know in the comments! 👇

Happy to the hardest working group of people we know! Thank you for all that you do!

According to AgAmerica, “The day was set on October 12th because it is after the traditional harvest times of many crops—back before cold-hardy cultivars and technologies like high tunnels and other methods to extend the growing season were put into practice. That way, the farmers themselves would be able to join in the festivities because they would be done with the harvest.”

So there you have it! Be sure to treat yourself today, farmer’s!

We’ve been seeing headlines like this everywhere over the last year - global supply chain issues, the 2008 recession, and a number of other factors are creating quite the interesting environment for this year’s Christmas season.

What’s it like in your neck of the woods?
🌲Are you noticing that the impact of supply chain issues on fake trees has driven more customers to want to purchase real trees?
🌲For growers and wholesalers - has your supply bounced back from the 2008 recession?
🌲Have customers been converted from fake to real trees in order to feel the “comfort and joyfulness” of the Holiday season?

What other trends have you noticed? Let us know in the comments! 👇

Christmas trees take up to 12 years to grow, and in the height of the 2008 Recession, farmers had little incentive to plant trees at typical levels.
