Introducing PBW Candidate for Business Woman of the Year and Young Professional Nicolina Villani-Martinez.
Greetings, My name is Nicolina Villani-Martinez. In 2016, I made a decision to move to and serve a smaller community, coming from Denver, Colorado. The Northern New Mexico Community captured my heart and I have been here since. The Raton Police Department offered me the opportunity to pursue my passion for a career in law enforcement while I continued to serve in the Air Force Reserve as a Technical Sergeant at the 302d Security Forces Unit at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado which I have done for the last 10 years.
So, how did I end up in Raton do you ask? After graduating from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in both Psychology and Sociology, I decided to further my law enforcement career, by serving as a city police officer. Quickly, I fell in love with the community of Raton, as it had the perfect combination of allowing me to continue my public service as an officer and contributing as a volunteer to a smaller community.
Volunteering is also one of my largest passions. I joined the Raton Police Officer’s Association and was nominated as the President of the board. The RPOA is a non-profit organization in Raton and its goal is to give back to the community. The RPOA fundraises to hold events such as Shop with a Cop, Santa in the Park, Safe Trick or Treat, Trunk or Treat, baseball/golf tournaments, the Parade of Lights, the beautification of the Dog Park, Relay for Life, as examples. I’m also a registered adult with the Colfax County Young Marines. I have volunteered 250+ hours with the Young Marines over the past few years. One of my favorite youth activities is teaching Drug Demand Reduction, which is a quarterly 4 hour class, where I provide presentations to the youth in efforts aimed at educating and reducing the desire for illegal and illicit drugs. In addition, I have participate in various events including weekly drill, bake sales, swimming lessons, boot camps, presenting the colors for graduations, Run for the Wall and placing Memorial Day flags and the annual camping trip. I also assist in other various youth organizations such as PTO events, Elks basketball and little league baseball.
