For us, it's the word 'demystify' πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†

With more and more content being created through AI generators, you might be asking yourself 'do I get negative points from Google if I use AI generated content?'

Google will tell you NO... We will tell you "It Depends".

Why does it depend? Well, it depends on how useful your content is. It depends on if it speaks to your potential customer, or if they get the 'ick' factor of something that was just made for search engines and talks in circles.

Whether you are using AI or not, you need to make sure it is heavily human edited. AI messes stuff up ALL. THE. TIME. You need to make sure it speaks to your potential customer. You need to make sure it provides genuine value to anyone visiting your website. If your content doesn't do these things and people are hopping off your website to find better info elsewhere, Google will know it.

Make sure your content is authentic & valuable, with or without the help of Chat G.

It is a rainy sludgy day over in Boston and that's how it feels like the news has been lately! UGH! If we haven't met, I'm Allison, Owner & Web Designer over at SimplicityDMS. I'm a Mom of two so I may be a bit biased but today I wanted to talk to you a bit about the power of Moms. Sometimes I wonder if people are a bit judgy about whether or not to have a Mom for a web designer. "Will she get my stuff done in time?!" "Will my business be the priority or will it be her kids?!" "What happens if her kids call out sick from school?!"

These are all great questions that demand good answers, and more importantly, follow through. So, I'm going to break it down into some key values that have driven our success over at SimplicityDMS so far -

Time: As a Mom I have learned that compartmentalizing my time is critical for success (both feeling great as a designer and great as a Mom). I've gotten REALLY good at this. And it's important, because when I'm meeting with clients, my focus is 100% on you.

Systems: I built SimplicityDMS from the ground up focusing only on sustainable systems. For your website, for long term growth, and also to prevent me from stretching myself too thin, which therefore would pull my priorities away from you and onto the next big sale. Everything we use, from our hosting, design, widgets and ongoing monitoring tools was designed to be sustainable for your business and provide ongoing value (without big jumps in cost). We LOVE our tech stack, if you will.

Priorities: Our clients are like family, and so are our kids. There is never a text message or email you could send me that would be unwelcome, and we know that your business is in many ways a little kiddo in need of love. We know just how important it is to you, and we want nothing more than to be a part of helping you succeed.

Integrity: I don't like telling my kids one thing and then doing something else, and I don't do that with clients either. That's not how I do business. If I tell you something, I honor it.

Does being a Mom make you a better business owner? I think so, but I'd love to hear your stories!!!

It’s cold and blustery in Boston, and it seems like a good time to chat about SimplicityDMS! I’ve been getting lots of feed back recently about what people like about their websites and service and here’s what we’ve got:

β€œHours and hours of my time back”
β€œThings that would never get done, get done”
β€œYou keep track of all the little things so I don’t have to”

Being an entrepreneur is tough enough, and what goes into a website that works for your business isn’t just what you see on the surface!

We love our clients and are always planning ahead for them, considering all the options, and exploring new ideas πŸ–€

This SimplicityDMS tip is brought to you by consistency. Consistency was something we mentioned in a recent Tip Tuesday, and we're here to bring it to light in a different sense - Consistency in your branding.

All too often we create a website.. then a page.. then an instagram.. and by the time we get to the next task, we have forgotten the fonts or colors or styles we used originally and we sort of wing it.

Don't. Do. That!

Consistency in your brand builds confidence in your brand. Think about it. If you're selling a $1000 pair of sneakers, and your logo is a little different on the 3 platforms someone sees you on... are they certain they are buying from you? Are they more confident in that purchase, or less?

Use a tool like Canva to create a comprehensive brand. Which fonts are you going to use? Make sure that you use them consistently across platforms. What colors are in your logo? Note the color codes and make sure the matches are exact on your website and beyond. Got an old logo hanging out somewhere in internet space? Get rid of it.

Make sure that your potential customers know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are working with YOU.

According to the CDC, about 1 in 4 adults in the US experience some type of disability, and just like the rest of the population the majority of those individuals use the internet every day.

The question is, do you choose to turn away 1 in every 4 people interested in your services?

This is what businesses do when they don't make accessibility a priority with their website.

The fact that over 8k lawsuits were filed over website accessibility issues in 2023 really seals the deal for us on how critical this issue is not just for welcoming website users, but to also protect your business. (https://www.adatitleiii.com/2024/01/plaintiffs-filed-more-than-8200-ada-title-iii-federal-lawsuits-in-2023/)

Make sure that you take a look at your website's accessibility this year, and make sure you are taking steps to make sure all of your potential customers are welcome, just as you would open the door for them at a brick and mortar business!

Guys, Google took their Core Updates this year pretty seriously. In total, 7 adjustments were made to their algorithm, which subsequently indicates how well you show up in search results.

So, you might ask, what is our takeaway and what have we seen with our clients? πŸ‘©β€πŸ’»

Well, to sum it all in a sentence, we feel these updates solidified that you aren't going to show up in top search results by accident. Does this make it a little more challenging for some businesses? Yes! BUT, it also makes it simpler in some ways. The focus goes back onto your website visitor, not on what gimmicks you can do to manipulate the algorithm and somehow 'get' Google to show your website in results.

What do we mean by focus going back on your visitor? That means:
πŸ“±Providing valuable content that isn't anywhere else on the internet.
πŸ“±Answering questions that your website visitors are asking and looking for the answer to.
πŸ“±Consistently and frequently paying attention to your website, and therefore consistently paying attention to your website visitors.

Throwing an occasional update in here and there just doesn't seem to be cutting it. You heard it here first: 2025 is going to be the year of intentional websites and businesses who are 100% focused on their customers. πŸŽ‰βœ¨πŸŒˆπŸ’™

Have you ever been to a website on your phone and it looked like things just didn't align properly? Websites don't just automatically look great on different device sizes - It's up to you (or your designer) to make sure that things align as properly as possible, or where appropriate redesigned altogether.

Somewhere around 55% of website visitors globally are doing so on a mobile device, and Google has particularly taken a liking to mobile-friendly websites in terms of SEO. Where we might have once thought it wasn't a big deal if our website didn't show up looking perfect on mobile, in this day and age you are missing out on a great impression for a huge amount of your website visitors if you don't consider mobile design! Take the time to check it out and make the necessary adjustments to start 2025 on the right foot!

As we head into 2025 one of our biggest suggestions when it comes to your marketing is tracking what you're doing. Create an excel sheet, add it as a task to your Google Workspace, do what you've got to do so that you can adjust, monitor, and control. One of the biggest missed opportunities that we see with small business owners is that they're shelling out hard earned dollars for their website and investing hours and hours of time... But have no idea where things stand or what improvements they saw as a result of their activity. Take note when you add content, when you add a blog post, when you add new photos or update your Google My Business. Get your system in place to kick off 2025 on the right foot!

It's going to be 2025 before we know it, and before you dig into that 2nd helping of pumpkin pie and some boozy eggnog we've got some things to do! 😘 It's time to start getting ready for a fresh start for your business in the New Year, and that means giving your website a little refresh - We're not saying spend hours. But schedule some time to add a couple photos, make some thoughtful adjustments to your headlines, add some USEFUL content about your services and what you have to offer your customers... Consider your meta descriptions as well (those little blurbs that show up on Google when you show up in a search). Perhaps use some of Google's tools to see which of your pages are showing up well and which ones might need a little TLC to get them where you want them to be. Don't just swap things out - Think about adding depth. Lastly, add some fun new things to your Google My Business page to show your potential customers you are alive and well!

Then throw on some fuzzy socks and celebrate πŸŽ‰ We hope it has been an incredible year for you and that you are looking forward to an even better and brighter 2025!

Spent the morning doing some industry & keyword research for a client and one of the several questionable things we saw in the search results was that one company had 5 Google my Business profiles taking up the whole Maps section of results.

There are loads of strategies that people and SEO's will take to get to the top of the search results. We highly recommend knowing what your SEO is doing for your company to get you traffic, because if it's a bad practice and Google catches you, the penalty might be severe and permanent.

So, what should you do to compete?
-Keep getting good, honest reviews
-Keep producing genuinely helpful content
-Keep updating and adding to your website and Google my Business profile to show your business is relevant and active

Best practices lead to organic traffic that you can count on. If you're doing sketchy stuff, Google will find out about it (or other business owners will report you) and your great SEO results will be very temporary.
