Last night, during our nightly devotional with our teen sons, the subject of what our mouths speak and the impact they have on others, was discussed.
At the end of each reading, questions are posed for each of us to answer. The questions were: Do your words inspire? Have you ever been affected negatively by someone else's words?
We chatted for awhile about these questions with each of us providing honest answers that caused us to do some major self-reflection.
It also proved to be an opportunity to share personal experiences of having dealt with less than motivational words from others and how that made us feel.
No matter what daily role you fill each day; parents, teachers, friends, neighbors, pastors, youth pastors, store clerk, etc, etc... our words matter. They can have a significant and lasting impact on others, capable of building people up, inspiring them, or tearing them down.
May we strive to inspire with our words.
