Are you planning to be out of town this Thanksgiving weekend? Residents in Powell can request the Powell Police Department to keep an eye on their homes by filling out an online form before heading out.

While you're away, an officer will check on your residence daily and provide additional patrols to ensure your home remains safe and secure. Should any safety concerns or criminal activity arise, you will be notified immediately, giving you peace of mind to enjoy your holiday. This service is a great way to protect your home during Thanksgiving break.

🤝Making a Difference

Knoll Family Launches Annual Coat Drive to Warm Up Wedgewood

In 2016, Wedgewood resident Nadia Knoll noticed that her daughters had outgrown their coats and wanted to pass them along to someone in need. During her search for a fitting organization, she discovered One Warm Coat, a group dedicated to providing free coats to people across all 50 states.

One Warm Coat has collected more than 8 million coats, promoting environmental sustainability and keeping more than 20 million pounds of textiles out of landfills. They also partner with Retold Recycling to recycle clothes with stains or holes, extending the impact even further.

After donating her family’s winter gear for years, Nadia expanded her efforts in 2023 by hosting a coat drive for the Wedgewood community. She advertised the event in the neighborhood Facebook group, Wedgewood 360, encouraging neighbors to drop off coats on her porch. This resulted in the donation of 40 coats, and she’s aiming to surpass that number this year.

Residents can drop off their donations on the Knolls' porch at 10427 Forest Glen Place through Friday, December 20. Items accepted include gently used or new coats, sweaters, gloves, mittens, hats, and scarves. Nadia will distribute these items to local organizations in Central Ohio that partner with One Warm Coat.

Nadia, her husband Brad, and their three daughters, now ages 26, 24, and 19, moved to Wedgewood in 2011. Brad is a Senior VP with Allianz Life, and Nadia is a Residential Real Estate Advisor with Coldwell Banker Global Luxury Realty. Together, they have volunteered with organizations such as the Mid-Ohio Food Bank, Ronald McDonald House, and raised funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Parents Michelle Porter and Max Huffman are overjoyed with the arrival of their beautiful daughter, and her big brother, Cal, couldn’t be prouder. The family is enjoying their time together, settling into life as a family of four with love and excitement for the future.

Blue: The Quirky Cat Who Keeps Us Smiling

Meet Blue, a 2-year-old gray cat who lives with Wendy, John, James, Cameron, and Lilly Williams in Wedgewood. This playful feline became a part of the family uniquely—James brought him home from a graduation party, and ever since, Blue has become a cherished member of their household.

One of Blue’s favorite pastimes is playing with his string toys. He enjoys it when the kids, especially James and Cameron, lie on the floor to engage him in a game. Blue’s energy and curiosity shine during these play sessions, and he loves being the center of attention. When he's not playing, Blue can often be found perched by the window, watching the birds. He'll sit for hours in his favorite seat, observing the world outside while closely monitoring the neighborhood's feathered visitors.

Despite his charming demeanor, Blue can be a picky eater. He tends to be selective with his meals, sometimes going a few days without touching his food. However, when treats are involved, his attitude changes. Blue will rush to the kitchen when he hears the crinkle of a treat bag, and he shows far more enthusiasm for his snacks than his regular meals.

One of the funniest stories about Blue comes from his love of hiding. On one occasion, he found a cozy spot in the closet, curled up in his secret space. Unfortunately, he was so well-hidden that the door was shut, and he spent an entire day in the closet before the family realized where he was. After his little adventure, Blue emerged unscathed, and now the family continuously checks for him before closing any doors.

Blue’s playful and quirky personality makes him a beloved part of the Williams household, adding joy and laughter to their everyday lives.

Thanksgiving Turkey Trots: Festive Races to Kick Off Your Holiday!

Before you tuck in for your Thanksgiving feast this year, consider participating in a fun, festive run in the brisk morning air! On November 28th, local communities will gather for Thanksgiving morning races—often called turkey trots—in and around Powell. These races offer various course options and benefit a range of charities.

The closest race to Wedgewood will be the four-mile Powell Turkey Trot, celebrating its tenth year. Run or walk on a tree-lined course while enjoying the beauty of historic downtown Powell. Meet at the City of Powell Municipal Building/Village Green Park (47 Hall Street) where the “Wobble ‘Til You Gobble” Kids Race begins at 8:30 a.m., and the Turkey Trot 4-Miler starts at 9 a.m. sharp. In Dublin, the OhioHealth Flying Feather Four Miler offers a scenic journey around the Club at Corazon (7155 Corazon Drive). A Kids’ Gobbler Chase begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by the four-mile run at 9 a.m. Learn more and register at theflyingfeather.com.

For a shorter race, check out the Delaware Turkey Trot, a 5K with an alternative two-mile walk option. The starting line is behind the Discount Fashion Warehouse/Kohl's (1000 Sunbury Road).
