Groundbreaking Program Supports Nursing.

WVMC launched the LPN to RN Apprenticeship Program January 5th. This program is designed to support Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in advancing their education and achieving licensure as Registered Nurses (RNs) through a structured one-year program that combines academic instruction with clinical training.

🌟 Program Highlights

Partnering with Chemeketa Community College.
Earn while you learn: Work as hospital staff while studying.
Graduate as a Registered Nurse (RN) at WVMC!

📚 Structure

Mix of clinical shifts & coursework (online + classroom).
Mentorship from experienced RNs.

💼 After graduating, new RNs are automatically enrolled in the Nurse Residency Program to kickstart their nursing career!

WVMC welcomes George Fox University nursing students to campus for an amazing learning experience!

This is an experimental cohort is dividing students across Med-Surg, ICU, the Birthing Center, and our Women’s Clinic.

Typically, cohorts are placed within a single unit, but in this arrangement, 3 students are in acute care settings (ICU and Med-Surg) and 3 are in obstetrics settings (OB, Women’s Clinic), with a rotation planned for the next term. This allows students two terms in the same facility, enabling students to build confidence, become familiar with our charting system, and hopefully become immersed in our hospital culture.

The students have been appreciating the warm welcome, the range of experiences they’ve observed, and the hands-on skills they've been able to practice.

In 2018, Oregon Business featured Shari’s in “The Non-Foodie Restaurant Survival Guide,” a feature about unpretentious casual restaurants working to stay afloat amid a “restaurant apocalypse” that shuttered locations of fast food and fast-casual restaurants that were once household names, like Applebee’s and Subway. Borgese, identified in that story as the new CEO of Shari’s, which at that time had 90 locations in six states, said he had recently overseen a menu refresh and rebrand, both focused on the chain’s Northwest roots.

He stressed that while the restaurant was seeking to bring in younger customers, he would not chase millennial customers with “gimmicky” tactics.

Earlier this week, Borgese confirmed that all Oregon Shari's locations have closed.

Oregon-based diner chain was down to 17 restaurants after starting the year with 42.
