Recording Studio, in Portland, Oregon, has hosted sessions for artists such as The Go-Betweens, Elliott Smith, Jolie Holland, Atlas Genius, Wooden Shjips, Built to Spill, Moon Duo, Lord Dying, Battleme, Quasi, Stephen Malkmus, The Gossip, She & Him, M. Ward, Sleater-Kinney, Eddie Vedder, The Decemberists, R.E.M., Sonic Youth, Spoon, comedian Dax Jordan, Jason Lytle, and The Shins over its 17-year
history. Owner Larry Crane (also founder and editor of Tape Op Magazine) has helmed many of these sessions and has utilized his knowledge of recording to create a unique and full-featured studio that is available for an affordable price. Many talented engineers and producers from Portland and all over the world have worked at Jackpot! - the studio is set up for freelance engineers, with supremely organized patchbays, labeling and wiring. has an impressive assortment of gear, including a custom 32 channel Rupert Neve Designs 5088 console (with 8 additional inputs, 8 busses, and 8 auxes), 24- and 16-track 2" analog tape decks, an MCI 1/4" 2-track mixdown deck, Pro Tools HD2 Accel with 40 ins and 40 outs via BURL and Apogee converters, a vintage EMT plate reverb, upright piano, plenty of channels of boutique mic preamps, high end, outboard equalization, real, analog compression, and a wide range of microphones (over 100) to choose from. have duplicate backup units and parts on hand in order to ensure that sessions can keep rolling no matter what happens. Since May 2007 Jackpot! has been located its current location. The building has been designed from the ground up as an amazing sounding acoustic space. The live room is over 600 square feet, with 12-foot ceilings, and oak floors. There are three isolation booths and nearly 100 tie lines located throughout the studio to a TT patchbay through all new oxygen-free copper cabling. The new building is in a convenient location at SE 50th and Division, near Trade Up Music, Stumptown Coffee, Petite Provence's French bakery, North Bar, Bete-Lukas, numerous other restaurants, tons of food carts and a handy Plaid Pantry market across the street. Since 1997 Jackpot! has worked with many talented, well-known artists and provided the local music community with a comfortable and affordable place to make records. We've even been voted the the best, "PDX Approved" Recording Studio in Portland by The Mercury readers.
