Is it me or has the afternoon storms been lackluster so far this summer in Florida ?

Beryl left the African coast as an easterly wave on June 25, became the season's second named storm on June 29, the season's first hurricane on June 30, and the first major hurricane also on June 30. Today it made its final landfall... Africa to U.S. travel time: 13 days.

For those thinking storms are getting more frequent it’s just a matter of trends and patterns going back and forth. For example Tropical Storm Aletta formed in the eastern North Pacific which was the 1st eastern North Pacific named storm of the 2024 hurricane season. This is the latest start to the eastern North Pacific season in satellite era (since 1966), beating old record of 1969 (Ava - 3 July. The Atlantic will most likely see much more activity this year than the Pacific due to cooling of the Pacific waters brought on by a fading El Niño and an oncoming La Nina.

Hurricane Beryl has intensified to a Category 5 hurricane with max winds of 160 mph - the earliest calendar year Atlantic Category 5 hurricane on record. The prior record was Hurricane Emily on July 17, 2005.

The closest storm to where Beryl is currently is Ivan from 2004. The difference? That storm occurred in early September.

Beryl became a major hurricane on June 30th. Just an incredible anomaly.

Jeez. Hurricane Beryl just hit parts of the Windward Islands this morning as a high-end CAT 4 hurricane. Maximum sustained winds are up to 150mph which is just 7mph shy of a being a CAT 5 hurricane. Beautiful looking storm on satellite!

Impressive radar image of category 4 Hurricane Beryl. Weather will deteriorate very rapidly in Grenada and the Grenadines over the next couple hours as many will deal with the eywall of Beryl.

What a way to start July…

🌀 Hurricane Beryl became the earliest and farthest east Category 4 storm on record.

🌀 Tropical Storm Chris has formed right before landfall north of Veracruz, MX.

❌ Invest 96L has a high chance to develop into 🌀 Debby over the next 7 days.

Powerful Hurricane Beryl churning towards the windward Islands. Will be the strongest hurricane they have seen this early in a season.

It really cannot be overstated how anomalous this is.

Hurricane Beryl is on the verge of becoming the first ever Category 4 in the Atlantic in June after breaking multiple records for further east hurricane and major hurricane.

This is an incredibly rare event.

This has to be one of the more impressive looking and healthy storms I have seen this far out in the Atlantic this soon in a season. The Windward Islands could be staring down the barrel of a major hurricane before landfall. Sounds crazy to say in late June/early July. Beryl already starting to clear out an eye.

New tropical depression has formed in the Atlantic. So far most models keep this on a southerly track through the Carribbean and into Central America. SlIm chances on a U.S. impact at this time but very early in the game and things can change later.

Just keep an eye on it for now .. lots of time to watch but anytime any of these storms get through the Carribean they should be watched for possible US impacts. Anyone from Florida to Mexico needs to be monitoring. Too far out right now to be narrowed down any less than that.

It is remarkable how the Southeast Florida coast has remained largely unaffected by hurricanes over the past 13 years, despite its geographical vulnerability.

Strong line of storms headed into the west coast tonight.

Spring is on the horizon and so is the possibility of very strong storms capable of producing hail and brief small tornadoes this time of year out in front of frontal boundaries. Looks like an ongoing tornado warning in Palm Beach County at this moment.

Big band of heavy rain and strong storms will move across the state today. There is a chance of some severe weather and isolated tornadoes as the boundary crosses the state today.
