Hi everyone.

We're hosting a weekly Greater Toronto Area Ving Tsun/Wing Chun Meetup & Training Sessions every Tuesday from 7:30 - 10pm in Thornhill.
Our inititiative is community building and exchange with the great system we share.

There will be a Feature Instructor every week to lead a small lesson or seminar for 1hr from 7:30 - 8:30, then open exchange training until 10pm.
It's only a $5 drop-in fee.

In 2014, a group of us (direct lineage students of WSL) in Hong Kong, established the Wong Shun Leung Students Association (WSLSA), with the intention to commemorate our late Sifu Wong Shun Leung, for all his great achievements and contributions to the world of Ving Tsun.

Sifu Wong Shun Leung rooted his Ving Tsun teaching establishment in Hong Kong for over a few decades. Here in Hong Kong, he discovered many talents, and he cultivated renowned Ving Tsun Legends one after another.

Hong Kong is the birthplace of WSL Ving Tsun. Prior to the formation of the WSLSA 10 years ago, many first and second generations of WSL direct lineage students have already established their own Ving Tsun teaching practices, which flourish in each of their own unique paths.

This year is the 10th Anniversary of WSLSA, “coming home” has a significant meaning for martial arts practitioners. Thus, we are organizing a Homecoming Gathering during 22nd to 24th November this year, for the direct lineage of Wong Shun Leung Kung Fu siblings to meet again in Hong Kong.

The Direct Lineage of WSL

In the recent years, some direct WSL fellow students had discussions regarding how the WSL Ving Tsun methodologies was being properly passed on. We began to see some mixed-up in WSL Ving Tsun teaching techniques in the market.

Due to the popularity of internet usage and easy access of contents, people can easily come across videos and articles on Sifu, or watched videos shared by direct WSL students. This was how they first learned about WSL Ving Tsun.

If these individuals are purely interested in WSL VT for personal interest, it is definitely a good thing. But if these individuals are simply just leveraging Sifu’s reputation as a way to make business, we do have concerns about such behavior.

Some of these individuals had never ever met Sifu in person, or they took a short-term-training from a non-WSL-direct-lineage practitioner. They then broadly advertised and positioned themselves as the official directly lineage of WSL VT.

We found such operating techniques improper and misleading to the learners. That makes us question the conduct and integrity of these individuals.

Let us step back a bit. Nowadays, it is hard to prevent people from leveraging Sifu’s reputation to recruit students.

We do have two options:
1. Pretend that we do not see this issue and keep silent.
2. Try our best to defend the reputation of Sifu, let learners know which Ving Tsun School or Sifu are in the WSL Direct Lineage and choose wisely. To protect new learners, hopefully, they would not be misled to join the inauthentic practitioners.

As such, Chan Kim Man SiHing and I felt that this would be the right timing to do something to defend Sifu’s reputation during the 10th anniversary of the WSLSA’s establishment.

Then we also discussed with my SiHings Ma Chung Sing, Lam Kam Kuen and Wong Hong Chung and decided to make the upcoming reunion event in November more meaningful.

We are now sending invitations to the first-generation disciples of Master Wong Shun Leung. We hope that all brothers and sisters in Hong Kong and overseas can support us. See you in November!
