The cause might be damage to a nerve ( vagus) that controls stomach muscles.Gastroparesis is a rare disease affecting 4% of the US population ranging from mild to moderate to severe in three categories, idiopathic, post surgical, and diabetes. One out of four adults in the US are likely to have gastroparesis and women are four times as likely then Men. pediatric gastroparesis affects 2% of the US population. there is no cure for gastroparesis. the life expectancy is 3 to 7 years with a mortality rate of 33% at five years in most cases. Living with gastroparesis can be a challenge for individuals who have recently received a diagnosis or are managing their condition. gastroparesis is a long-term condition and can affect a persons quality of life and well-being. The symptoms can be severe and even life-threatening, affecting the quality of life of countless patients. The three categories of gastroparesis are as followed 1. Diabetic 2. Post surgical3. idiopathicas The three severity levels of gastroparesis are as followed1. Grade 1 or Mild- Symptoms relatively easily controlled. Able to maintain weight and nutrition on a regular diet or minor dietary modification.2. Grade 2 or Compensated- Moderate symptoms with partial control with pharmacological agents. Able to maintain nutrition with dietary and lifestyle adjustments. Rare hospital admissions.3. Grade 3 or Severe- Refractory symptoms despite medical therapy. Inability to maintain nutrition via oral route. Frequent emergency room visits or hospitalizations. Symptoms of gastroparesis typically include:* nausea and/or vomiting,* stomach pain and discomfort,* dry heaves,* stomach fullness after a normal-sized meal,* early fullness and the inability to finish a meal.Additional symptoms, such as bloating, stomach
