Jazz and Culture needs your help! Do you have five minutes?

Despite receiving extensive scholarly accolades, the journal has lost funds since its founding and needs subscribers to become financially stable. This has become increasingly difficult as many libraries are slashing acquisitions budgets. We're not asking for money, but for five minutes of your time.

The best way to support us is to encourage your institution to subscribe. This is an easier process than you think! And is helpful whether you are a student, faculty member or otherwise connected to a university. Here's what you can do:

1.) Google the name of your institution and "library purchase request" (sometimes also called a "recommendation form").
2.) Most universities have a dedicated page or form to fill out. Ask them to subscribe to "Jazz and Culture" published by University of Illinois Press. If they need a URL: https://www.press.uillinois.edu/journals/?id=jac
3.) If possible, please do this ASAP! Most libraries renew their journal subscriptions in January, so NOW is the time to make requests.

That's it! Student and faculty requests are hugely influential when libraries make purchasing requests, so this would be an effective way you can support the journal.

I'll end by mentioning that individual subscriptions are also very affordable (marked down heavily from the institutional ones - $30/year for 2 issues).

Thank you in advance for your ongoing support.

Our second special issue, “Jazz” in the Present Tense” is now available. Thanks to the hard work of our guest editors Kwami Coleman, Kimberly Hannon Teal, Fumi Okiji, and Nate Sloan. The special issue features articles, reviews, a panel discussion, and a colloquy section that focuses on a snapshot of Jazz in early 2020. When live music performance had evaporated into the ether, and digital and otherwise recorded music had become a salve in fearful times: a means for comfort, expression, contemplation, dance, and human connection in a time of hyperisolation. This issue is devoted to the mercurial volatility of change, which is something that is captured by art practitioners and scholars attuned to matters of creative practice.
