Lt. Col. John McCrae These words were written to honor the lives lost in World War I by Lt. Col. John McCrae as looked over a battle-scarred field of red poppies in the spring of 1915. Today, the poppy is used by military families and communities as a symbol of remembrance. It’s been more than 100 years since the end of the first World War and these words being penned. Take a moment to remember the fallen soldiers who gave their lives so that we may enjoy the many freedoms we have today.
