A 13-year-old girl, pregnant, rushed to the emergency room, revealed a truth to the doctor...
Night had fallen over Zaragoza when an ambulance arrived at the emergency room of Miguel Servet Hospital. Inside was Lucía, a 13-year-old girl, pale, her face bathed in tears and with abdominal pain that made her tremble. She was accompanied by her mother, Beatriz, and the paramedic, who had already relayed over the radio that the girl showed symptoms consistent with premature labor.
Dr. Sergio Álvarez, the gynecologist on call, received the young girl. At first glance, he noticed something that always made his stomach turn: absolute fear, a type of terror that didn't appear solely from physical pain.
—"Lucía, take it easy, you are safe here,"— he told her with the gentlest voice he could muster.
The girl nodded but avoided looking at her mother. Sergio requested an urgent ultrasound. While the team prepared everything, the mother paced back and forth, mumbling that none of this could be happening, that Lucía "just had some strange aches."
But the ultrasound made everything clear: Lucía was between 30 and 32 weeks pregnant. Beatriz collapsed into the chair, unable to speak. Sergio, trying to stay calm, asked them to give the girl some space.
—"Lucía… I need you to tell me the truth so I can help you. Did you know you were pregnant?"— he asked softly.
The girl's eyes filled with tears. Trembling, she shook her head no, but then closed her eyes as if fighting something inside herself. The heart monitor showed an increase in her pulse rate.
—"Lucía, whatever it is, it is not your fault,"— the doctor insisted.
She pressed her lips together. The mother wept silently. Sergio sat beside her, patient, giving her time.
Suddenly, the girl stared at him. Her voice came out almost as a whisper.
—"Doctor… I have to tell you something. But… please… don't let him come in here."
Sergio frowned.
—"Who, Lucía? Who are you talking about?"
The girl gripped the sheet between her fingers, trembling.
—"He… he was the one who did this to me…"
A sharp bang was heard at the emergency room door. Someone was trying to get in. The panic on Lucía's face reached its peak.
And then, the scream broke:
—"Don't let him pass!"
