The Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes Podcast Greetings, friends and colleagues. Spanning 36 episodes and 5 movies, producer Michael Cox created a Sherlockian experience like no other.

And welcome to The Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes Podcast page – devoted to revisiting and honoring the world’s greatest portrayal of the world’s greatest detective. From 1984 to 1994, Granada Television produced what is arguably the best (and most complete) depiction of legendary detective’s Adventures, Memoirs, Case-Books and many Returns. This podcast will examine that timeless series with a specific eye on Jeremy Brett in the role he was destined to immortalize.

We also celebrate the 37th anniversary of perhaps the most divisive episode of the series, The Hound of the Baskervilles. It's hard to know what to say about this episode, which hasn't already been said in our Podcasts. Some of you really like it, and some of you find it nothing but disappointing. One thing we know is we have heard very few apathetic responses to it, which is something. It does however, and we will always stand by this, have the finest group of actors to have ever played the roles in the story so there is much to like. It just could have been done so much better!

The Hound of the Baskervilles - aired 31st August 1988
Director: Brian Mills
Dramatiser: T.R. Bowen
Producer: June Wyndham-Davies
Executive Producer: Michael Cox

Cast includes: Jeremy Brett, Edward Hardwicke, Raymond Adams, Alistair Duncan, Ronald Pickup, Rosemary McHale, Kristoffer Tabori, Edward Romfourt, James Faulkner, Philip Dettmer, Stephen Tomlin, Fiona Gillies, Bernard Horsfall, Don McKillop, William Ilkley, Myrtle Devenish, Elizabeth Spender & Donald Bissett

We would like to wish a very Happy Birthday to the brilliant Charles Kay who would have turned 95 today. Sadly passing away earlier this year, he was a good friend of Jeremy's and a superb actor. In a role that no doubt had its strange part to play, he did so with great reverence and authority. Cheers to you Charles!

Today is Our Mycroft's Birthday. Charles Gray would have been 97 and is sorely, sorely missed. A magnificent actor whose career spanned many decades and many genres. We love and admire him, and for us he is THE Mycroft (honourable mention to Stephen Fry). So, right now, we raise a very large glass to this man and his superb sideburns and thank him.

Today we remember Bernard Atha CBE, Dr Carthew from The Dancing Men. Bernard lived to be 94, and passed away only a couple of years ago, having gone into politics. But we remember him and for his role at Ridlingthorpe Manor, assisting Holmes in his investigation.

The second series of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes kicked off 40 years ago today with The Copper Beeches. With two well-remembered and beloved performances from Natasha Richardson and Joss Ackland and a vivid electric blue dress, this is a dark, sinister entry into the series. Full of uncomfortable moments that only heighten the tension and the mystery of why the young governess is paid so much to do the strangest things. If you don't like this one, we may have to release the mastiff!

The Copper Beeches - aired 25th August 1985
Director: Paul Annett
Dramatiser: Bill Craig
Producer: Michael Cox

Cast includes: Jeremy Brett, David Burke, Joss Ackland, Natasha Richardson, Lottie Ward, Patience Collier, Angela Browne, Peter Jonfield, Michael Loney, Rachel Ambler & Stewart Shimberg

Today we remember the fabulous Peter Wyngarde, Langdale Pike in The Three Gables. His age is somewhat of a mystery, but some sources claim he would be 98 today. Sadly leaving us a number of years ago, he will forever be remembered as one of the most iconic actors of all time and he is one of our all time favourites.
