MY DAUGHTER AND SON-IN-LAW DIED 2 YEARS AGO — THEN, ONE DAY, MY GRANDKIDS SHOUTED, "GRANDMA, LOOK, THAT'S OUR MOM AND DAD!"
Recently, my two grandkids and I went to the beach to have fun, as usual.
"GRANDMA, LOOK, THAT'S OUR MOM AND DAD!" my grandsons shouted, pointing toward a young couple sitting at a café nearby. My daughter and son-in-law had died two years ago. When I looked at the couple, I nearly fainted, for I immediately recognized my daughter. The man looked different but still bore a striking resemblance to Anthony.
I took my grandchildren by the hand and handed them over to my friend Ella, who was sunbathing nearby. I asked her to watch them for an hour, and she agreed. "Don't go anywhere; you can sunbathe here," I told my grandchildren.
Then, I immediately went back to our previous spot and started to spy on the couple. Soon, they stood up and left. I followed them to see where they lived, as it didn't feel appropriate to approach them just yet.

It had been two years since my wife passed when I decided to remarry. My 5-year-old daughter, Sophie, and I moved into my new wife Amelia's big house, inherited from her late parents. Amelia seemed kind and patient, a ray of light in our lives. At least, at first.
One evening, after a week-long business trip, Sophie hugged me tightly and whispered, "DADDY, NEW MOM IS DIFFERENT WHEN YOU'RE GONE." Her voice shook, sending a chill through me.
"What do you mean, sweetheart?" I asked gently, kneeling to meet her eyes.
"She locks herself in the attic," Sophie said. "I HEAR WEIRD NOISES. IT'S SCARY. SHE SAYS I CAN'T GO IN. AND… SHE'S MEAN."
I was stunned. "Why do you say she's mean, sweetheart?" I asked, my heart trembling. "She makes me clean my room all alone and won't give me ice cream, even when I'm good," Sophie replied.
The locked room struck me. I'd noticed Amelia going in there but thought it was her personal space. Her behavior toward Sophie also deeply unsettled me. Was I wrong to bring her into our lives?

From the very start, my son was completely against us adopting a child. He told us over and over that he didn't believe we would still love him as much if we brought another child into our home.

I RECOGNIZED MY BRACELET ON THE WRIST OF THE NURSE TAKING CARE OF ME IN THE HOSPITAL — I WENT PALE WHEN SHE TOLD ME HOW SHE GOT IT.
A few days ago, I broke my leg after falling off a ladder while cleaning the house. My husband was away on a work trip, but I didn't want to make a big deal out of it. It's fine, I can call an ambulance myself.
I spent two days in the hospital under observation, and while I was there, I made a new friend — a young nurse who was so sweet and caring. We got along so well that I actually thought we'd stay in touch after I left the hospital.
But then… I noticed something on her wrist.
MY BRACELET.
Not just any bracelet — MY bracelet. The one with the gold heart charm that my grandma had given me. The one that went missing from my closet a month ago.
