Swift Steps: The Recovery Community for Swifties

Swift Steps: The Recovery Community for Swifties join us! https://www.facebook.com/groups/swiftsteps With a history deeply rooted in addiction, I am a testament to the resilient spirit of recovery.

Growing up amidst alcoholism, drug addiction, mental health challenges and domestic abuse, I bore the scars of those traumas. And even as I tried to distance myself from the legacy of my upbringing, addiction found me in numerous forms: from food to shopping, from relationships to substances. My journey to recovery wasn’t linear. I struggled with relapses, leaned on maintenance medications, attend

ed 12-step meetings, intensive outpatient programs and used various harm reduction tools. I was convinced that formal treatment wasn’t for me but what I truly needed was genuine human connection. It was only when I surrounded myself with compassionate individuals who truly understood my struggles that I was able to shed the weight of shame and grow beyond my challenges. Today, as a recovery mentor and advocate, I bring this profound intimate understanding to help others navigate their own paths. Let me be your guiding hand, sharing both my missteps and successes, to light your journey towards a fulfilling life in recovery.

Ever been told you’re “too intense” for having boundaries? Too emotional for speaking your truth? Too much… for existing?

In tonight’s Women’s Meeting, we’re breaking down the double standards women face in recovery. We’re starting with a clip of Taylor calling out the way women are criticized for what male artists get praised for in the music industry.

And then we’re going deep—into the real-life recovery stuff: The sexism. The silencing. The pressure to make ourselves smaller.

Chet Hanks, the son of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, is embracing a profound transformation, marking over three years of sobriety—a milestone that, by his own admission, has made “everything” in his life possible. Once known more for viral antics and controversy than career consistency, Chet has reemerged as a serious actor and father, using his platform to speak candidly about recovery, accountability, and the power of personal reinvention. “If I wasn’t sober, none of these opportunities would even be possible,” he told Us Weekly. Now starring in Netflix’s hit “Running Point,” Hanks credits his sobriety with unlocking the life he was always meant to live.

Behind the scenes, his journey was anything but easy. Chet has spoken openly about hitting “rock bottom” after a devastating three-day co***ne binge that led him to rehab—again. Today, he’s not just surviving but thriving, calling sobriety a “non-negotiable” that makes life “extremely easy.”

Support from his daughter, Michaiah, and his steadfast parents—who “stuck with [him] through thick and thin”—has been instrumental. And to those considering a similar path, he offers this advice: “If you think you might have a problem, then you do. Stop thinking and just do it. Don’t look back.” For Hanks, the chaos of the past has given way to clarity, and what’s emerging is a man ready to live, work, and love without numbing the experience.
