I've ALWAYS been a music ju**ie, and back in 1983, I went to my first "dance" and was appalled at how lame it was... so I made it my mission to do something about it. Within a few months, I was "helping" and then DJing on my own. 30 years later, I'm having more fun with it than ever! People have asked if I'll ever stop, and my answer is always, "Sure, if it ever stops being fun!"
Along the way,
I've also done nightclub work (I was the opening week DJ at the Loft in downtown Tacoma, in 2001) and Radio (I had the Friday night 8-Midnight shift on Seattle's C-89.5FM from 1993 to 2001, under the name DJ Mike Brady on the Friday Night PartyZone) but have always done the mobile DJ thing. I've done events as diverse as youth dances, the above mentioned club and radio work, company picnics and holiday parties, and the bread'n'butter of the mobile DJ, wedding receptions. Through all of that, I've honed my ability to read the crowd, and play the music that they want to hear - hopefully before they even realize that they want to hear it! That skill was also honed by a 9 year stint at AEI Music Network in Seattle, where I programmed the music that played in businesses, stores and restaurants, including Red Robin, Lane Bryant, Avenue, Williams-Sonoma and many others. In 1999-2000, Old Navy put out a Workout CD, which was mixed by me. For the last 3 or 4 years, I've DJ'd several events for the City of Fircrest, including the Pool Party (5 years running), Movie in the Park, provide all-day music and announcing for Fircrest Fun Days every August. The City of Fife has hired me for their National Night Out - after which I was honored to receive a plaque from the city thanking me for contributing to an outstanding event. Hopefully that gives you a little insight into who I am and what I do...
Oh, and another thing - I DJ from a laptop with over 8,000 songs on it, plus I bring a live Internet connection so that if a request comes in that ISN'T in my collection, I can get it quickly and have it playing before the moment passes.
