New Project, New Mic shoot out for vocals. MXL Genesis II, Shure SM7B, AKG c414 XLII, and Neumann TLM103. Matching a microphone to a performers tone and delivery style is one of my favorite processes. Who's gonna win?
Recording studio catering to all and any styles of music and production needs. Demos, albums, commercial work, pre-production. Low budget friendly studio.

Don't let the dust fool you, the effect reamp unit is one of my favorite creative tools for getting stomp box effect pedals into my production workflow. In tracking I'll track the dry vocal and then split the signal line out of my interface into the reamp, and record the dirty signal in parallel for that blown out PA vocal sound, which can be monitored in real time with no perceived latency by the vocal talent so they can perceive how hard they are pushing it and react to it. My only complaint is how bright the power LED is, hence the piece of paper covering it since it's at eye level lol.
Sketching out what will eventually become the heart of the Studio B Set-up for electronic music production with our collection of hardware synths. Being able to have all these devices connected to the DAW at all times with MIDI sync and analog summing means more art, and quicker ideas to "tape"
More work travels means more travel pedals. Found this locally made little gem while on a site visit in Omaha, Nebraska. Who knew I'd find such a brutal distortion pedal here?
Sometimes you can stop by a gift shop in the airport and buy a guitar pedal, as a treat. The Plumes is a fantastic compliment to my other dirt pedals in the studio.
There are a few methods to using a noise gate in your signal chain, the most effective typically being what is known as the "4 cable" method when using a high gain amp that has an effect loop. When additional effects come into play it's important to consider where they sit in these different parts of the chain.
Another session with Primal Leap today. They wanted to throw in an acoustic track, do something a little more "Live" so we tracked guitar and vocal at the same time with bass direct in the control room to get the performance feel. Genesis Tube mic on vocal with the AKGc414 in figure 8 for the acoustic with JDI to capture the preamp out from the Taylor Acoustic. Bass direct into the VHD preamp DI
A little documentation can be helpful when you regularly like to take things apart, or just need a guide to put a concept together. Here's my most recent pedal board with signal flow notes as well as notes for power. Thinking of making some more of these as reference guides to share for a variety of studio connection applications.
Bought this trigger set up in late '23 to start experimenting with a few things in the studio. This is a way to perform with hybrid acoustic and electronic drum sounds, and is also a way to produce beats in a more organic way. Using the trigger module with the mpc live for sample playback and recording the trigger MIDI info. And of course, they are a great tool for rock/metal drum production
Minor update to the analog front end, I've replaced the old Focusrite Scarlett with a second Clarett. More high quality preamps for recording drums and other multichannel sessions, and the additional Clarett output conversion gives me 16 of the same converters to start looking at some analog summing options for mixing.
Guitar and Bass Day with Primal Leap. Marshall JCM2000 + Mesa Dual Rec for guitars through the 1960 Cab and Bass through the Dark glass head with an Ampeg 4x10.
Sometimes the kitchen is an auxiliary recording space for scratch tracking, but the Halloween Decor needs to become a permanent studio fixture
Day 3 at taking some time in the immersive audio / enveloping listening sessions.
Day 2 at AES, only had a half day but I got to see some more toys like this variable impedance DI/preamp from cloudlifter, and I sat in on an incredible session on how has designed the FOH audio system in recent tours.
I spent most of my time at in demos and education sessions, but I got to see a few cool toys too
I need to get better with pictures, but here's the distortion we used on voice and a shot of on the kit from today's studio session
New Gear Day! Invested in some triggers and an I/o module to enhance standard drum production and do some creative hybrid kit effects with my MPC live as the sound source.
Recent Restoration project. Recordings from the group The Butchers. Recorded in 1967 and originally cut direct to a Vinyl 45, digitally captured for the first time and restored / mastered for digital . https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLd4eIg6tjMMxOx7uMhXmNXi9jOjKJ3Q5H
Studio Session today with vocal chain of choice is the .berlin TLM 103 into the preamp with a little compression/character from the LA-610 preamp / compressor.
vibes getting the house Ludwig kit tuned up for a jam session.
My Grandfather cut a couple tracks onto a 45 in the early 70's. I'm going to digitize it and restore the audio using some of the high quality conversion and RX software. Also using my MPC live phono preamp to capture the audio off the turntable. Look for some more content on the process soon.
Getting my internet-ing in order and going to start utilizing social media along with my new website audioalchemystudio.com Looking forward to new projects in '23!
FOR FANS OF BLACK/SPEED/PUNK METAL (THINK 80'S)
After starting pre-production in February of 2020 and recording of the album late in 2020 due to Covid delays, plus all the fun of working with mastering and distribution logistics, the newest release from Hammr is finally available for streaming and physical releases on CD and Cassette, with Vinyl coming this summer. Recorded and Mixed at Audio Alchemy Studio. Link to the labels shop for orders in the comments.
Stepping up the interface/converter/control game for a higher quality recording, mixing, and mastering experience. Looking forward to all the projects ahead to start using these on. More simultaneous record channels, better talent mixing and monitoring management, stable PC and standalone performance, and some of the best analog/digital/analog conversion available.

MIDI Lab configuration in progress. A few pieces connected so far for control by the DAW so I can get the best blend of programming and performance. The goal is that this lab can be set up in a separate room for independent composition or with synced control and playback to the main studio DAW. Templates configured so you can dial in and recall sounds in DAW sessions and get right into composition. Also will allow for quick remote control to play and route devices into sessions in the main studio. #MIDI #studio #DAW #electronicmusic
