UPDATE: The Sheriff’s Office confirmed that at least three skiers were directly involved in the incident and are in good condition.

Two skiers were able to ski out of the slide, while one skier was buried. The two unburied skiers quickly dug out the third individual. All three skiers were safely escorted off the mountain and did not require on-site medical treatment.

According to the initial investigation, the avalanche was about 40 yards wide and skier-triggered.

A Summit County Deputy risked their life earlier today to stop a wrong way driver on SR-40. The Deputy intercepted the wrong-way driver by positioning his vehicle into the path of the oncoming truck. SR-40 was closed for several hours between 7 and 10 a.m while emergency personnel responded to the scene. The algae swim to the surface of the snow, where they bloom and divide.
