A Summit County Deputy risked their life earlier today to stop a wrong way driver on SR-40. The Deputy intercepted the wrong-way driver by positioning his vehicle into the path of the oncoming truck. SR-40 was closed for several hours between 7 and 10 a.m while emergency personnel responded to the scene.
The deputy has been released from the hospital with minor injuries and the driver of the truck had no reported injuries.

Residents of Park City were treated to a rare and stunning display of the northern lights, also known as the aurora borealis, which appeared in the night sky late Friday May 10, into early Saturday morning. This natural phenomenon, typically seen closer to the poles, graced the Park City skyline with vibrant green and purple colors.

The technicolor snow appears in high-altitude environments throughout the globe including the French Alps and Japan’s Mountains of Dewa when a perfect storm of conditions — water content, sunlight, temperatures and the presence of nutrients — awaken dormant green algae called chlamydomonas nivalis that thrive in cold temperatures. The algae swim to the surface of the snow, where they bloom and divide. Upon arrival, when they’re hit by sun and ultraviolet rays, their color changes to absorb radiation and protect themselves from damage.
