Today is National Backwards Day! How many of you ever wants to go back in time to when you didn't have your specific dog? Not me! And I'm sure you don't either.

Yes, they might drive you crazy right now, trust me, Coconut wanting to go out for a long walk is not happening no matter how much he gives me his opinion, but going backwards isn't want I want.

I'd love to go backwards and not be in the car at the exact time when the SUV slammed into us. But it did. So wishing for a different ending to that lovely beach day is something that will never happen.

And then there are all the dogs who don't want to go backwards. The dogs who were strays or abused, hungry, those without hope.

Once a dog is in a rescue or shelter or a foster situation there's no going backwards. The question is, what is their forward?

Rescues like Second Chance North do a terrific job of helping dogs look forward. This weekend Nashville Pet Products Oshkosh is having an adoption event which is a great way to connect forward-looking dogs and people to each other.

However you found your dog, thank you for caring about them and others out there who need dogs to help them more forward. Together we can spread the word about the dogs I post here, we can share our stories to encourage people to adopt a dog, we can volunteer, donate financially where we can, and give supplies to rescues who need them.

If we all do a little, we can make sure that more dogs are in a place where they don't go backwards or forwards; they stay exactly where they need to stay. Loved and happy with their people.

The last day of National Train Your Dog Day doesn't mean the training ends. It also means that your dog will keep training you if you're like the average dog owner.

Coconut gets so bored during the winter. Two or three walks a day help, but he misses interacting with people.

We are lucky to have quite a number of dog-friendly places here in Oshkosh and so yesterday we took him to TJMaxx. I needed some new sofa pillows and so that was the goal.

Coconut knows exactly where the toys and treats are and so he made sure those areas were our first stop.

Before we made it there I spied the bed section. Coconut's upstairs bed needed to be replaced. He likes to circle around and paw the bed and, after six years, it it had holes that were dangerously close to making my floor look like a snow storm. I had already flipped it over once and so I really didn't have a choice.

Coconut might buy for comfort, but I buy for decor. I saw one that would go nicely with the curtains and pulled it off the shelf. Coconut jumped in like it was already his. He squirmed around and told me this was it. Then he waited for all the employees to come and give him belly rubs as they told him how cute he was.

Coconut loves small beds. I think maybe they make him feel safe. He curls out as tightly as possible and he really does look like a little brown coconut with a long black tail.

Yesterday was a good day for this guy which means it was a good day for me.

Sadly, our girl Wednesday has returned to us. She was adopted but due to an unforeseen allergy complication for the adopter, she was not able to stay. We are so sad for this little 22 lb Luvbug! You may recall, she was adopted from our partner shelter, as a baby, and then given away, resulting in her returning to the shelter via Animal Control. She then made her way to Wi in January. Despite it all, Wednesday has not lost her LOVE for people or friendliness with other animals. Since being back, she has successfully attended daycare a couple times and especially enjoys playing with other pups her size and smaller.
Wednesday is housetrained, kennel trained, walks well on a leash, food motivated. Just an all around great little dog. She is spayed and up to date on all vaccines and prevention meds.
1/30/2024 is her estimated birthday. 😢She might not get to spend it in her furever home, as we hoped, but we hope to help her celebrate a happy ending, to all of her searching, soon!
Fostered in FondduLac. Adoption fee $200

Good thing Mom didn't want a girl to keep her company. They are going to have the best time. Congratulations!

Meet Cheeto & Hugo – an adorable pair of 7-year-old pups looking for a loving home together.

This friendly duo balances each other out with their opposite personalities. Cheeto is an outgoing and affectionate girl that enjoys going for walks and snuggling. Hugo is a sweet but shy guy that likes to take his time getting to know you.

Like all dogs at the Wisconsin Humane Society, they have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped so they’re all set to meet their new family.
