As this year comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on the countless moments of love and support that have carried me through. To everyone who has believed in me, cheered for my little business, and embraced the heart I pour into every single stitch—thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Christmas Eve 2025: Featuring Pantone’s Color of the Year, Mocha Mousse. For this project, I used an entire ball of Merino 401 in the shade Sandcastle. I didn’t follow a pattern, opting instead for a simple design to let the yarn’s stunning color shine.

It was my first time working with Berroco’s Merino yarn, and it was an absolute delight! The yarn felt wonderfully substantial, offering a thickness and durability that promised strength and lasting quality. Its sturdy texture was perfectly balanced by a soft, comfortable feel, making it an absolute joy to work with. I couldn’t put it down and completed the project with pure joy. The 2x2 ribbing enhances the color’s beauty so perfectly—it’s almost good enough to eat!

This sweater is finished now, but I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the process.

As a process knitter, I treasure the steps before the first stitch is cast on. It starts with reading the pattern—understanding the blueprint for what lies ahead. What does it take to create this garment or accessory? Then, the choices begin: What kind of yarn feels right? Which needles will bring this vision to life?

And then comes the gauge swatch—a little like a first date. You pair your chosen yarn and needles to see if the fabric feels just right. It’s a small, deliberate act, but it sets the tone for the entire project.

Every decision, from yarn to gauge, builds toward something meaningful—a sweater to wear, a gift to cherish. Stitches become permanent. They reflect your effort, choices, and presence in the moment.

So, I ask: How do you want to show up today? What small decisions will help you craft the tomorrow you desire?

I’m working on my second pair of fingerless mitts, and I’m loving every stitch! I hit a snag about 10 rows back, but I took the time to fix it by tinking (knit backward, one stitch at a time). Mistakes happen—in knitting and in life—but they don’t have to define the outcome.

In life, I try to own up to my mistakes. In my knitting, I rework them. Wool is so forgiving, and it reminds me to offer myself that same grace. Each stitch is a chance to move forward, and when life feels messy, I find comfort in the rhythm of creating—one row at a time.

Hey there, I’m Delilah Marie McKay (cue song 😊), a mama of two from Orlando, FL, and the hands behind Knit Next to You. Knitting, for me, is more than just creating something beautiful—it’s a way of working through life. Each stitch is like a heartbeat, steady and grounding, giving me space to process the joys and sorrows of life.

As a process knitter, I’m not just focused on the finished piece; I’m captivated by the journey of creating. The textures, the colors, and the rhythm of the needles—it all feels like a form of therapy, a way to untangle the knots of the heart and turn them into something meaningful. It’s been some of the hardest days recently. Transitions can be heavy, stretching us in ways we never expected. But even in the middle of the challenges, there’s a quiet hope—a promise of what’s to come.
