Creighton dance marathon returned to an in-person event in Skutt ballroom.

Students raised a total of $72,645 in support of Omaha Children's Hospital and the pediatric intensive care unit.

Pictured above: Tanya Winegard, Ph.D, the Vice Provost for Student Life, delivered a speech during the marathon. Winegard was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer earlier in the year. By the end of the event, Team Tanya raised $10,281.

Creighton’s seventh annual Dance Marathon was back in person on Saturday after having a virtual event last year due to COVID-19.

The event had 984 participants sign up and $47,481.92 raised for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

About 3,635 people were vaccinated for COVID-19 at the community vaccine clinic at the Rasmussen Center on Saturday with the help of more than 300 volunteers.

The Creighton operation, which is one of four clinics rolling out vaccines in Douglas County, is the only one that is interdisciplinary and student driven, said Jenny Tilleman, a doctor of pharmacy and associate professor in the School of Pharmacy.

Men’s basketball coach Greg McDermott apologized via Twitter on Tuesday for an analogy he used in the locker room following the team’s Saturday loss to Xavier.

According to the tweet, he said: “Guys, we got to stick together. We need both feet in. I need everybody to stay on the plantation. I can’t have anybody leave the plantation.”

The university statement said disciplinary action in personnel matters remains confidential.
