have you tried these planters from Naked Root yet?!
I was skeptical, but I’m converted. This fern has done so amazing in ambient humidity (around 35°) and lives near an east window. I kept it in the potting soil from the nursery which seems to be more water retentive than my soil free mix I typically use.

so why do people say “don’t repot in fall and winter.”
the rationale being that the growing season for the plant is slowed down. less light, less warmth, and plants can go into dormancy.
as with fertilizing, if a plant is still growing, or it’s in a climate controlled setting (grow lights, greenhouse, etc) the plant really doesn’t know what month it is.
this anthurium Michelle was extremely root bound and losing leaves likely to that. She lives in a greenhouse that gets 14 hours of light year round. so this plant will be just fine with a repot!
what’s your rule of thumb? Are you a year round repotter as well?

*calls herself a moss pole hater yet buys a 5 foot moss pole* BUT LET ME EXPLAIN 💀💀💀
I’m using this as support, so I call them *support poles,* I’m not encouraging aerial root growth. could I have made this cheaper? maybe, but again refer to the lazy point
(actually I just work full time as a nurse, in my last year of grad school, and run a small business) stretched thin may be a better saying 🤭
this thing is thick and tall and was literally perfect for my monstera albo! comment “link” for a DM to snag this bad boy

back by popular demand, pls be gentle guys!!! your plant WILL have shock if you are rough on the roots when switching to a soil free medium 😭😭 I can’t say it enough but stop washing your roots to switch into this mix!
steal my viral soil free soil recipe!
I make this in large batches and use a 50 gallon tub to mix it all up! this has been my favorite mix for hoya, alocasia, anthurium, monstera, philodendron and begonia!
I do not water more frequently than regular potting soil, I water every 7-10 days depending on the pot size. the coco chips do hold onto moisture, so I recommend using clear pots to SEE the medium and if there is condensation in the pot 😊

what questions do you have? Have you tried my mix yet?!
did I read these instructions 69 times, yes. am I convinced I understand? not entirely 😂
these are “breathable” planters from Naked Root. basically *I think* I’m supposed to wait until the reservoir is dry for 6 days (per the chart for “thirsty”plants in this size planter) before adding water…
so I’m technically starting my “dry cycle” today, as the reservoir is empty, so in 6 days I will fill it.
my guess was that the reservoir would be empty in 7ish days, so that’s how I came up with 13 days watering cycle. Again, a total guess lmao
stay tuned we will see how this goes. I’m not good with new things and I’ll be shocked if I remember to fill the reservoir but HERE WE GO 🌱
I’ve had 99% success rate with this method of propagation 🙌🏼
steps listed out below! comment “link” for the list of supplies I use 😊
step 1: get some 3 oz clear cups (pretty sure they are meant to be shot glasses)
step 2: cut some drainage holes into one cup. you could also solder some holes if that’s your thing
step 3: get a hoya cutting
step 4: add coco/perlite to the cup with drainage holes
step 5: insert hoya 👉🏼
step 6: use the lil stay in place thingy to make sure it’s secure
step 7: put your cup with drainage into another cup without holes
step 8: water until it comes out the bottom
step 9: put in a warm/humid spot with bright light. I have a greenhouse, but a prop-box (Tupperware) would also work
step 10: give it a few weeks, water when totally dry, and enjoy your new Hoya!! 🌱
some greenhouse babies that were looking extra cute today 🥰 which ones you’re favorite?!
and let me say I do NOT know everything about plants, BUT I have learned a ton through years of trial and error and my own research!
I love helping people figure out what’s wrong with their plants, and finding solutions to help them, but I just don’t have unlimited time to do so.
which is why I am considering adding “plant consultations” on my website. I will have to work out the logistics, but ideally would do a zoom call for 15 or 30 minutes to really help you figure out your plants in your space.
There is SO much conflicting information out there, and sometimes getting a second set of eyes can help narrow down onto a problem.
let me know what you think? I know I see a lot of other creators offer this, but…. Is this something that you’d actually pay for?
anyone else feel this in their soul? unless I’m asking for advice or opinions it just gives *know it all* when this happens 😅
DISCLAIMER I HAVE NEVER CLAIMED TO KNOW IT ALL OR KNOW ANYTHING AT ALL. WE ALL DO THINGS DIFFERENTLY. IF YOU WANNA WATER YOUR PLANTS WITH BREAST MILK WHOS TO STOP YOU.
thank you ♥️
