FYI
Did you know that the Friday after Thanksgiving is also called "Brown Friday"?
Pouring cooking oil, poultry fat or grease into the kitchen sink or toilet can cause sewer backups. It might wash down the kitchen sink, but grease WILL stick to pipes as it cools like this. It also creates floating substances that clog City Pump and Lift stations; and when those break... it can be really costly.
Avoid a grease clog in your drains and toilets this holiday season by following these tips:
1. Can it! Pour cooled fats, oil and/or grease into a can, then cover and freeze it. When full, toss the can into your trash.
2. Wipe it! Use a paper towel to wipe out excess grease or oil from pots or pans BEFORE washing them.
3. Strain it! Use a household sink strainer to catch food remnants, then throw them into the trash.
4. Scrap it! Consider compositing veggie scraps and peelings. Toss meat and poultry skin into the trash. Don't put them down the drain.
