Hi Pharmily,

If I am being very honest, I do miss this. I miss being part of the fight and I am so saddened to miss APhA this year because we all know, the conference could use some uncomfortable moments (I love my peeps at American Pharmacists Association ) and I tend to exceed in making those happen. 😀

But this time off has been something I did not realize I needed. Last year, has been more trialing and exhausting in ways that our family has ever known. We made the hard decisions to pull my son out of school for avoid sickness and allow us a time to recover.

There are a lot of amazing people doing amazing things for pharmacy right now. Lots of fight against PBMs. The pharmacy guild is doing amazing and many associations are looking at regulations changes. And let’s not forget, an entire generation of new pharmacists coming up with more drive and vision to see changes.

But above all, you are the center of it all. You are the gem that makes this profession what it is. And whether I am out there, be the well known antagonist I am portrayed to be…or stepping back and taking time for myself, I am always thinking of you and I am grateful for you.

Please always take care of yourself. And if you need anything, my inbox is always open.

My heart is literally breaking for the humans of CA affected by this fire. Their lives would never be the same. I know we tend to think that homes are just physical things and that’s all. And perhaps yes. But they also hold memories and many people have worked so hard to build their lives and now everything is gone. Please be mindful of your comments and your mockery. Because one thing I have learned is that life never stands still and it does not give you an heads up and it does not discriminate.

Thinking of all my Phriends in CA. Please check in to let me know you are safe.

Dear Phriends,

As we end this year, please allow me to say thank you for a beautiful and memorable 2024. Thank you for standing with me, for me and by me during what I can only describe as a hard year personally but also a very productive year in terms of the beautiful work we have done for pharmacy.

As I am continuing my sabbatical from this movement, I just wanted to still drop by and wish you a happy new year. I know that 2024 has been a challenging year for many of you and I am so proud of you for standing up through the storms.

You are all a bunch of amazing and extraordinary individuals and I am so so grateful to have met many of you personally in 2024.

Major announcement:

Dear Phriends, the last year has been quite a challenging year for me and my family especially regarding my son’s health. We have recently returned home from an hospitalization after being hospitalized over thanksgiving.

For those who have followed me for a while, you are aware that my son has a rare genetic condition that unfortunately is not well known and has a severe and long list of conditions. But as being rare, it also means that when we are faced with something about his health, we fly blind and it requires a long process of finding answers.

That being said, with the events of this year regarding his health, I have taken the decision to fully step away from my social media advocacy work with both and the Pharmacy Guild until further notice. I will remain active within some capacity. My social media platforms will remain active but with little to no activity. Furthermore, all speaking engagements and traveling will stop until further notice.

This is not a decision that has been taken lightly. And while he is stable and at home, the multiple hospitalizations over this last year, along with working full time and other things, are unfortunately proven to be quite a load.

I want to be able to do this with a heart that is full and not divided. And it has truly been a pleasure to have stood besides so many wonderful individuals to raise our voices for pharmacists, technicians and students and patients all over the country.

The contributions of this journey are something that no one can deny or take away from me and others.

I love pharmacy dearly and the people who make it what it is.

But as someone who preaches about selfcare and knowing one’s limits, this is the time to follow my own advice.

Thank you for not just supporting me but also correcting me and for being a partner during this journey.

I might randomly pop up and drop hellos because I am a social media girl at heart. 😂😂

Please understand this does not mean that if you are in a situation and you need me, I am not unavailable to you. I will never turn my back like that. You got me. It simply means that it might be delayed answers.

Thank you again for all you have been to be. This is not goodbye forever…but mainly…see you later.

Welcome to the page. Where sometimes we get super heavy about pharmacy problems. But once a while, I throw something light and childish. Hence my annual pictures with the Christmas Tree and the Bear at work. I did not realize how much people were looking forward to this until I get messages asking where was the picture.

I hope this gets you a small wave of laughter in the crazy and hard season.

I know holidays can be a bit rough on a personal level but also on the professional level especially for our Pharmacists, Technicians and Pharmacy Students behind the counter. Just wanted to check in and see how everyone was doing.

Also, if you have resources which can be available to others during this time, or ideas on how to navigate this season, please drop them in the comments.

And as always, please make sure you take care of yourself first. It is so ingrained in us to be other people heroes before ours.

Regardless, remember today that there is a wife, a child, a friend, a parent, a sibling who is mourning the death of their loved one. What happened today to UHC CEO, for whatever reason is not something any of us should be celebrating or passing judgement on his actions . Remember that we all could have been in his position.

This is a high tensioned moment for so many people. To grieve or to celebrate or to feel relieve… the range of emotions is vast!

We all need to take one step at the time towards something that might one day look like healing and restoration.

One of my amazing interns is looking for someone to sponsor her for Midyear in December. She is a hard worker intern who has been working to pay her way through despite her busy rotations. It will be great to send her there, as she is getting ready for this next phase of her life. 🙂

Wanted to share this resource from American Pharmacists Association . It is a monthly support group where you can attend and share your stories and trained professionals are available to help you navigate the trials . I attended one of those while at and it was really insightful.

APhA is the leading advocate for the pharmacy profession and a driving force in creating opportunities for pharmacists to play a key role in integrated patient care, and ensuring the profession is recognized as essential in optimal medication use.

Today ,
I skipped my workout.
I left my house a complete mess after getting my kids ready for school and MDO.
And I took myself out to read and enjoy coffee and not think about the responsibilities waiting for me.

It was hard to take myself out of my Fridays routine which involves cleaning my house and laundry and meal prepping.

But I remember one thing that my trainer said: health is not just physical… it is emotional and mental. Health is knowing when your body can’t handle another workout . Health is resting.

And knowing myself, be at home would eventually lead to cleaning and working out.

So today, for the next 3 hours… this is where I am. Reading and nothing else.

As a mom, a wife , an anything… it feels selfish to not be out there , doing something for someone.

But Bled can’t be Bled to anyone if she is not Bled to herself.

So make sure you take care of yourself so that you can take care of people who need you. And as Pharmacists, Technicians and Students, we are so needed.

And as someone who loves to pour into others, pouring into myself has become necessary as time goes on.

So on to crying for the next three hours because I always choose the saddest books to read in public. 😂😂

The most special event for the most special boy:While I am known as a pharmacy trouble maker, I am also a mom to two beautiful tiny humans, one of them is special needs. My son Daveed since I could remember has been fascinated with basketball games. He loves them.Recently, he was able to attend his first game with his dad and it was in heaven. Scientifically, it is hard to understand how much he knew of what was happening.But as someone who holds space for both the physical and the spiritual, I believe that he knew exactly what where he was and what was happening. The joy on his face was all I needed to know that he would remember this for the rest of his life.And this mom, is quite content. Oklahoma City Thunder

Bled, I thought you were pro pharmacy associations? Why are you promoting unions?

Wrong: I am not pro pharmacy associations or pro unions.

I am pro pharmacy professionals choosing whatever means they want to get their voices heard and to see that their patients are safe. And if that’s with associations , you can expect me to be there celebrating.

If that’s with pharmacy professionals choosing to unionize because they believe that’s the right path for them, again, you can expect me to be there, celebrating.

I am pro pharmacy professionals standing up for themselves and having a strong and protective backing behind them.

And lately, Pharmacy Guild has been that backing for many. Is it perfect? Nope. But it is making its stand as clear as it can be without being afraid of those who are trying to hard to destabilize our profession.
So here we go…welcome to the Pharmily.

It has been fun, been on the list three years in a row. And while I am super grateful and honored, it is getting old yall. Please do NOT nominate me and no, this is not reversed psychology. I will literally refuse those nominations. 😂😂

We need some new blood and we need to find the underdogs who are doing amazing things for our profession.

So let’s flush them out and put them on this amazing list of leaders. They deserve to be out there and to be acknowledged for all their work.
