Severe Weather Forecast:
There is a risk of severe weather today for NE and Central Oklahoma
NE OK: The primary threat will be wind and hail with a low end tornado threat. At about 12-1 PM storms fire and by 2 they ramp up and we get supercells. The Updraft Helicity Swaths show a little something but nothing really impressive, hence the tornado threat is there but very low. We have pretty decent instability for this time of year with 2300 Jules of MLCAPE. The first sounding is near Tulsa and the hazard is severe storms with classic supercells, however there are soundings nearby that show MRGL TOR but we are more capped in those areas, and need a temperature of 94 to break the CAP, otherwise they will be elevated hail makers.

Central OK: Models aren’t really showing storms for central Oklahoma but the 2nd sounding shows MRGL Severe and not very much Cap to speak of and a temperature of 93 to break the Cap and we are forecasted at 94 so should be able to break the CAP. The risk will be wind and hail with isolated reports of large hail, the tornado risk is near zero, I was unable to find any kind of tornado soundings in Central Oklahoma and the hodographs just aren’t supportive of tornadoes. Stay weather aware today and have your weather radio handy and apps ready to go. No reason to be afraid, just be prepared.

Heat Dome Update and Forecast

While prolong excessive heat spells maybe over for the year we will still see temporary spikes in temps ( Indian Summer ) as the Heat Dome High ( HD High ) migrates and weakens. We are starting transition into the cool season. This means three things gradually stronger longwave trofs, more severe weather, and a stronger Jet Stream. These stronger Jets will now tend to make the HD High more migratory. As the sun angle lowers the HD High will begin to head south.

Wednesday.... The HD High while still around has been battling trofs like the one in the Northwest. While weakened it will still produce strong monsoonal flow for the SW. Meanwhile east of the Rockies our good friend ( until January ) the Polar vortex, Blue Arrow, is throwing a trof southeastward which will enhance storminess..

Surface .... Fronts are now making it to the Gulf Coast. Of course nowhere as cool as northern fronts. Rainfall will be centralized along the Northern Gulf coast

Friday .... As the eastern trof moves to the east we see the return of the diffluent area , Black Oval, associated with the HD High. Its in the same place the trof has resided the past few days so heavy rain will continue there. The HD High , Red Arrows, has split into a ridge and a center. The crooked blue line, purple arow, is the symbol of a ridge line, synonymous to a trof line. It spreads clear weather due to subsidence. Also warmth.

Surface .... Here is a transitional change we have not seen since May... a cool front coming in from the northernern Pacific. We see this a lot in Winter. All of the fronts in Summer come from Canada in Northwest flow. The cooler drier air will clear out the Northeast while heavy rain lingers in the Southeast.

Extended Forecast....

Tuesday.... This is a pattern change and a doozy!! The northern jet is so strong and swift it leaves behind a slower trof and it cuts off from the main flow. This will produce a heavy flow of Gulf moisture in the Plains. The HD High enhances this flow by moving well ino the East. Eastern Seaboard temps will jump up!.

And looking into the far future, don't for one second think summer is over! By next weekend the HD High returns to Arizona and strengthens. It will remind us it still gets hot in late August!😆😆

7 Day Rainfall.... Amounts will be excessive along the Gulf Coast reaching 4". Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri and Kansas may see as much as 2-2.5"

Rainfall amounts are back up to around 1-3 inches tomorrow but it’s time to talk about the increasing threat for… tornadoes? Soundings in Ardmore and West and east of Ardmore as well as E of Witchita falls are showing tornado soundings and the Bulk Shear verifies this as well as some instability near 2000 Jules. These won’t be big tornadoes if they occur and they’ll likely be brief but the possibility is starting to show up. I’ll keep an eye on this and I’ll have an official tornafo forecast out tonight

Heat Dome High Update and Forecast....

Here is the News you have been waiting. Here comes the cool down you have been asking for that will turn off that constant hum from the AC!! You will still have to endure 4-5 Days of Heat but there is light at the end of the tunnel and its not New Jersey!!😆😆

Monday.... At the time of this writing there were only a few Heat Advisories, there will be more as the AM Forecast Cycle comes around. With the Movement of the Heat Dome High ( HD High ) The heat will build out west especially in the Northwest.

Jet Stream show very weak winds aloft which is usually another high heat symptom to watch. The HD High starts the week n the Texas Panhandle, so it will be very hot in KS OK and TX. The difluent area will not have a lot of activity but a jet atreak blue arrow, will produce rain and possibly severe storms in NE IA and MO. The red arrow is a center of height rises that will attract the HD High by Wednesday and start the changes.

Surface... Scattered thunderstorm in the diffluent area, Black arrow, severe weather will be confined in the plains to the Blue arrow. The weak easterly wave, green arrow, will produce more rain in south Texas. In this position the HD High will have the monsoonal flow restricted a little. Lesser storms in the western deserts, yellow arrow.

Wednesday .... Here is where the pattern begins to change. Our old Winter Friend the Polar Vortex moves intMichiganam, no Wind chill will not be of concern 😉. The gray arrow although weak wind , is a fetch from cool areas Canadaada and Highs in the upper midwest may not get out of the 60s!!! Tdiffluentent area moves south into SE Texas and Storms will pick up.

Surface... A cold front is headed for the Gulf Coast. The cooler temps will remain in the Ohio Valley but storm and rain chances go up. Severe weather is likely Tennessee Valley. With excessive heat in the west, the Thermal Low reforms and so does the monsson.

Extended Forecast.....

Saturday.... Here is where it gets really cool! LITERALLY!! A lobe of low pressure forms in the Polar Vortex's, Yellow Arrow, flow and will strengthen the fetch of cool Canadian air into the south. Models are forecasting 70s for highs as far south as Dallas and Shreveport. For Tulsa the High is only 70F!!😍😍 Yes, I double checked to make sure that was 70F and not 70C ( aprox 170F )😉 This will set up a clash of air masses at the Blue arrow. Severe weather is likely. While the east cools down to almost f\Fall like the western states will sizzle.....

Heat Dome High Forecast and Update....

Wednesday..... The Heat Dome High ( HD High ) moves to Colorado This along with a powerful Pacific storm , shuts of the monsoon allowing drying across the Southwest. We do have welcomed rain in the fire areas of the Sierras. This is upslope not monsoonal. Meanwhile the diffluent area, Black Oval, expands over the Southeast.

Surface ..... Fronts are drawn in Black to save time. The northerly winds will push a front as far south as Oklahoma and Arkansas. The Black Arrow is the stormy weather under the diffluence area. Some will call it air mass. The Blue arrow is the upslope rain with the new Pacific storm. The cold front in the Ohio Valley will be rain to the flood ravaged areas of KY and WV.

Friday .... The Pacific Coast storm pushes the HD High into westerb Kansas. Extreme heat reurns to KS NE OK and TX. Monsoon flow returns to the SW, And thunderstorms around the nose of a weak jet streak, Blue Arrow, could be severe. The diffluence area, Black Oval shrinks and moves south.

Surface .... The cold front in the southeast will not drop temperatures until you get into Kentucky. It will be a focus for strong and severe storms. The monsoons return to the southwest with heavy rain in NM AZ NV and UT.

Extended Forecast

Monday .... The HD High remains over the southern plains moving into Oklahoma. We see a return to monsoonal flow from the Gulfs of Mexico and California which will continue the rain in the SW.

The diffluence area moves more south into the Gulf of Mexico. Heavy storms could be enhanced by this and the sea breeze. The Blue arrow is today's Pacific storm. The nose of that jet could touch off storms some severe in the Ohio Valley.
