Our Story:
Soon after finishing the USC film-scoring program, I (Brian) began my theological studies at Fuller Seminary in hopes to deepen my understanding and love for God, to better love and serve His people, and to inform the passion and motivation for the music I create. I thought I was putting a hold on my music career until someone at our church suggested the idea of recording our Sunday wor
ship. After prayerfully considering how these two ideas might intersect, God began taking this vision and materialized it into something concrete, which led me to…
Our Name:
Sword & Staff Studio. In Exodus 17, the Israelites are attacked by the Amalekites on their way to the Promised Land. Moses instructs Joshua to take some men and go out to fight the Amalekites. All the while, he is on top of the hill lifting up his hands in worship to God. As long as his hands were up in the air, the Israelites continued to win the battle. The story ends with “Joshua over[coming] the Amalekite army with the sword.” I believe the Israelite defeat of the Amalekites came from Joshua’s spirit of boldness and Moses’s spirit of worship. The sword represents human responsibility. It’s my desire to boldly share the gospel through music in truth and love. But in doing so, the staff represents our heart of worship and surrender to God. He is the one we want to glorify with our music. The sword symbolizes Joshua’s boldness and courageousness while the staff symbolizes Moses’s desire to worship God. One could not succeed without the other. Our Mission:
Our Mission at Sword & Staff Studio is to create music that depicts the boldness and power of Joshua’s sword coupled with the worshipful heart of Moses’s staff. We’re committed to serve and bless our clients, our church, and our community with music that meets professional standards of utmost quality, creativity, and excellence.
