Deconstruct

Deconstruct On Deconstruct, we examine the myths that have dominated how our society behaves with new perspectives and fresh context.

We look into the historical origins of a myth, we follow the money trail, and we equip a listener with the tools to explore.

In today’s episode, we continue our series on unearthing and unraveling the myths that create toxic masculinity. I sit down with my friend Tobias James Tousignant, a Filipino non-binary human to talk about masculinity from both the cis and trans perspective. We talk about Harry Potter and JK Rowling, education and kids’ accessibility to learning, why women is sometimes spelled with an x, and a myriad of stories and experiences. We talk about trans visibility, patriarchy’s relationship to violence, and the way that insecurity fuels male violence.

You won’t want to miss this one. https://bit.ly/2DrLf6W

Episode 15 is LIVE, today!! Your Friendly Neighborhood Defense Group:

Protestors and Leftists have been getting a scary, unnecessary rep recently. With nebulous paranoia about the dangers of "antifa", the expectation that every protest is going to turn into looting, and the readiness of a lot of the population to demonize the folks standing up for black lives, I thought it would be fun to speak with members of COAL, a coalition of armed defense groups and justice organizers across the United States.

One of the biggest myths we're unraveling todya is the myth that keeps white people fragile, scared, and believing in the toxic aspects of racial hierarchy.

At the Rural Justice Network's Spencer Black Lives Matter Protest, I spoke some insights on the topic.

Take a listen to one of the gleaming moments of wisdom from EP7. Tag a friend who wants to level up their relationship game.

"If we expend so much of our resources to maintain a hyper-romanticized version of ourselves, we eradicate the chance we get to be vulnerable and honest with our partners. The expression of love, when it lacks vulnerability and creates a false characterization of ourselves, becomes an expression of control more than anything. That’s a practice us men ought to leave in the 20th century."

Big news, folks!! We're shifting gear, moving from daily shows to weekly features. Let it sink in, y'all. Much love.

Has our profit model gone too far? Our current profit model, based on infinite growth, is killing our planet and exhausting our people. It seems like it's been around forever, but it's only been around for the past 75 years.

How do we challenge the theory that our economy is supposed to grow forever? What happens to the climate when billion dollar corporations practice this theory?

Today, we talk about Degrowth as a solution to many of the existential threats that infinite growth has brought. Together, we'll find power in a model that we can get behind full steam. You won't want to miss this one.

Today's podcast is a special episode to me. When the world wasn't on thirty flavors of apocalyptic fire, I had my sights set on the climate crisis as the thing we could fight together. So many of my friends felt so scared and guilty about how they were fighting in it, and feeling like they just weren't doing enough.

There was so much dread and guilt in the work we were doing, I felt like I had to address it. So I did!

Today's podcast on Deconstruct is about this guilt. It's about the handful of companies ACTUALLY responsible for this. It's about the billions of dollars they spent over the past decade trying to convince us we were the ones responsible. It's about how we CAN do something, and we don't have to do it alone.

Today's is our first ever climate episode. I'm so happy to share this with y'all.

We're getting to the good stuff now, folks. What is it about wonder and imagination that make such powerful tools for adults? Why are we so discouraged from embracing these aspects after we "grow up"?

We get into the dynamics of imagination in organizing, the cycles of common misery within cliques in society, and what we can do to liberate ourselves and others from the feeling of being stuck in a world we have no choice but to survive in.

All this, on the newest episode of Deconstruct!

https://anchor.fm/fitzgerald-pucci/episodes/Episode-8-Wonder-efjv21

What is it about becoming an adult that makes the expressing joy and using imagination so frowned upon? Why is it that emotions are so frequently invalidated in professional spaces? We'll get to the bottom of what a sense of wonder and the ability to imagine do to enrich the lives of and strengthen....

Episode 7 is LIVE!

Men, listen up! Today, we explore the deep pressure, insecurity, and judgment we put on themselves to provide every possible need for their romantic partners.

Women, non-binary buddies! We talk about some of the red flags of toxic male behavior, and we discuss the ways this beliefs hurts your ability to grow a loving, healthy partnership.

It's a trap that we're taught to follow, that causes men to act against their own interests.

This is the first episode of romance dynamics Deconstruct is doing- we want to do more! We have a lot to learn about Q***r partnerships, and we want to learn ourselves up to present the best possible discussion we can. That'll be coming soon, okay? We want to hear your stories if you're willing to tell them- reach out to our DMs about the story you want to tell, and we will hold the space to listen!

Much love, everybody. I hope you enjoy the episode.

Folks, today's podcast is perhaps my favorite one yet.

We have been bombarded with the belief that humans are meant to be broken down and simplified to easily cmoparable traits. We are living in a system that wants to make us into statistics, but we are so much deeper than this.

I hope you get the chance to listen to today's podcast, and absorb the weight of the insights in this one. They are liberating in the way that Deconstruct was created to be. I couldn't be more proud of today's content.

Have you ever wondered how to be spiritual in this world? Have you ever seen an evil man preach the gospel and feel rage swell in you?

How do we navigate past the feelings of skepticism and cynicism towards religious bodies? How can I be a Christian with the knowledge that my religion is personally responsible for colonialism, the normalization of slavery, and untold suffering across the world?

Today, we deconstruct the brutality and extraction of dominant religion, and find accountability in its faults. Wrapping up, we make an appeal to how the left deserves to find spiritual reverence and catharsis in our work, even despite the atrocities explored.

Tag a friend that loves podcasts, tag a friend who's fighting to make sense of the religion they've been brought up with.

Good afternoon everyone. Deconstruct is ready to put up new episodes every weekday, but I wanted to reach a little deeper than the work week to sit with you for a second.

A beautiful man named Robert Fuller was found dead, hanging from a tree in City Hall in Palmdale California. My blood is boiling, my heart is weary with horror and rage. An officer in the department, Brandon Dean, ruled this unbelievably public and political killing a "suspected su***de." I'm sick to my stomach.

A local newspaper, the AV Times, wrote every word of this cop as fact. Such spinelessness, such contentedness with hearing a line of blatant false witness, it makes me sick to my stomach.

That's why I want to write about it today. To do what the AV times were too cowardly to do. I demand to the Palmdale community that a full-scale homicide investigation be launched, and that Brandon Dean and the rest of his cronies keep their distance from it.

The truth about this beautiful young man's death must be revealed, and accountability must be demanded.

06/12/2020

On Episode 2, Deconstruct answers one of the most difficult questions to come from Episode 1- "If there are no police, how do we protect our communities from threats that still exist?"

We return to the narrative unraveling in Seattle to describe an incredible new phenomenon- the formation of an independent state body called the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone. We explore thoughts on the relationship between the state and its use of violence, and question if its possible for a political body to responsibly practice violence. Can such a thing even exist? Find out in Episode 2: The Legitimate Use of Force.

Deconstruct explores the American dependency on their police presence, noting the different myths that cultivate a sense of "vivid paranoid imagination" that makes us feel a perpetual mortal danger that causes folks to feel codependent towards cops. We explore the origins of American police in a country that once functioned without them, as well as the billion dollar industries depending on a hyper-militarized punitive system to maintain their profits and influence.

With this context, we'll take some time to imagine what a society would look like without a police department, through the lens of a radical sense of trust in our neighbors and the human capability of changing for the better.
