Episode 21 is LIVE! - "Data or Worf?"

What's more important when planning a town- a proven formula or having a "unique" plan? We'll talk about it, plus: why basing our town's fiscal solvency on a single study based on an 80-year-old town may not be a great idea.

03/13/2023

Episode 20 is LIVE!!! - "A Referendum on Strawmen"

Was the 2022 election a referendum on growth in Nolensville? Why did the village overlay get reduced from 16 units per acre to 15? Why was the Committee for a Better Nolensville the first and only PAC in town history? Who does Mike refer to as an a******? All this and more in this episode of Small Town Charm.

Episode 19 is Hot and Ready! "C-Deez Overlays"

CD5 is dead?!? Long live the Village Overlay! We'll discuss how CD5 got brought back essentially in all its glory, and we dig in to what the anti-CD5 commissioners might have been thinking in pressing so hard not to just bring it back- but bring it back larger and denser than ever.

Celebrating the passing of CD-5 Overlay by the Board of Commissioners. LFG 🔥

Episode 17 is LIVE!!! "Save Our Village"

Liz and Caitlin join us again to discuss why it is that Brentwood has the same tax rate as Nolensville, but has amazing fire stations, one of the best libraries in the state. Meanwhile Nolensville's public works department doesn't have a bathroom, and one of our police officer's office is a closet. And what does all of this have to do with CD5? We'll discuss...

Episode 14 - "Build Logic, Not Feelings - With Commissioner Derek Adams"

Derek Adams - Nolensville Commissioner joins us to talk about the basics of where towns get the money to build roads- and why "build roads, not density" not only is a bad idea- it simply doesn't make sense.

Episode 13 is LIVE!!! - "This Isn't a Negotiation, It's a Hostage Situation"

We're back after a long break to discuss sprinkler system requirements, the complete insanity of wasting months arguing density numbers, how Mike keeps making history in Nolensville- and why the zoning discussion is being torpedoed by one side's self-proclaimed "experts" in negotiation, who ironically don't seem to know how to negotiate.

Note: We had some problems with Mike's camera, so his beautiful face can't be seen during parts of this episode.

Episode 12 is LIVE!!! - "Double Taxes for a Double-Wide"

Remember when our property taxes increased a few years ago in order to fund our fire department? Well, now we have a double-wide trailer for our firefighters to live in while on duty. In this episode we'll dig deeper into how much density both matters, and doesn't matter- and how your taxes will be increased to make up the difference.

Episode 11 - "Hot Pocket Takes"

Daniel got booed by citizens asking for "healing". We have two new town commissioners, a new mayor, a new vice mayor, AND a new 400+ unit development that all of the anti-growth people are now suddenly and magically OK with. Let's talk about all of that plus- the hottest trend in Nolo since unbuilt lady-parts spas:

11/29/2022

Episode 10 is LIVE! - "Clown Town, USA"

We go deep on Nolensville's "BS" (lol) social media environment, virtue-signaling, pearl-clutching, and more... Plus- how much "supporting local business" is our civic duty?

EDIT: The original video we uploaded accidentally cut off with around 20 minutes left in the episode. We're sorry about that and have uploaded the full episode in this post.

11/17/2022

Episode 9 is LIVE! "The Real History of Shady Real Estate Deals in Nolo"

We discuss 3 of the numerous shady real estate deals in Nolensville's recent past- including never-before-publicly-discussed info on the Publix deal. And, in what is becoming a theme in this show, you're going to hear a LOT of the same names you've been hearing in recent episodes about lawsuits, ethics investigations, and dirty election tactics. Speaking of the election- we also couldn't resist the pull to dive in to just a little bit more election talk, so we'll dedicate a little more time to that too.

11/14/2022

Episode 8 is LIVE! - "Election Madness"

Now that two newly-elected Commissioners have laid the ground rules for what they find "acceptable" in town politics, we're all fired up! We recap the election for Nolensville Board of Commissioners, along with the dirty tactics two candidates used to get elected. PLUS: Mike and Chris offer their predictions for what will happen in the January 5 Board of Commissioners. You don't want to miss this episode of Small Town Charm!

Episode 7 is LIVE!

You're Being Dense about Apartments

Let's talk all about density and apartments... How dense is too dense? Why do we currently have a town full of the same 3 kinds of restaurants? Is there a way to attract the businesses we really want? How dense are some currently under-construction developments really? And how many apartments will actually be in Nolensville in the distant future? All of that and more on this episode of Small Town Charm.

Note: This episode was recorded before the recent election. We will have PLENTY to say about it on an upcoming episode!

11/06/2022

Episode 6 is LIVE! - The Truth About Ethics and I ❤️ Nolo

Who is the most ethical of all? What makes an "attack" ad an attack? Is it an attack if it's true? Plus a brief history of the "ethics" of the crowd that now is demanding another ethics investigation.

Episode 5 is LIVE!

Back to the Election Past Part 1

Election season is here, and with it brings (unfortunately) a repeat of the same characters and dirty politics we thought were gone for good after the charter change. Stay tuned to hear some familiar names and familiar methods of disrupting and confusing voters.

10/31/2022

Episode 4 is Live! Titled "The Better Nolensville "Conspiracy" - An Oral History"

Hear the story of how Better Nolensville formed from 3 people who were there- and how it turned into For Nolensville. Maybe you'll recognize some of the tactics being used against BN- because they're all being repeated today by a couple of candidates, and the members of NAG- an organization that officially can't decide if it even exists or not.

10/28/2022

Episode 3 - Planning to Plan for a Future Plan

The planning commission had a meeting last week. As expected, they somehow still found a way to NOT vote on the zoning rewrite. So let's talk about zoning, density, and a new level of creativity displayed by the PC at delaying a vote... again. Also Mike finally disagrees with Chris and Daniel- and learns synonyms for the word "timeline". Plus: Daniel makes a confession that may end all respect for him here in the South.

10/24/2022

Episode 2: Election Shenanigans
Mike is running as an (illegitimate) write-in candidate, so we'll talk about why. We also discuss candidates who won't answer questions, running mates who "aren't" running mates, and why Daniel won't have coffee with any of them.

Episode 1 is Live: What's In a Name? We picked a name, and the hate started. Some under the auspices of "confusion" over our name. So we decided to air the fate of our podcast's name.
