This week we discussed Arizona's CD6 race between Juan Ciscomani and Kirsten Engel, focusing on their campaign strategies and the impact of abortion rights and bipartisan efforts. The panel also raised concerns about Rep. Raúl Grijalva's health, the lack of debate participation in LD19, and skepticism over the controversial HCR 2060 immigration proposition on the Arizona ballot.

With her father working as a wrestling coach, Areana Villaescusa grew up walking on wrestling mats.

The Grand Acres neighborhood, located just off North Grand Avenue and home to about 80 residents, has long been prone to flooding during heavy rainstorms. Recently, the main factor has been the lack of maintenance on a nearby wash that has become overgrown with weeds, brush and even a fallen tree – creating a dam-like effect that traps flood water inside the neighborhood, the residents said.

On Tuesday, a week after the most recent flooding incident, City of Nogales crews cleared a fallen tree and some debris from the channel to prevent further threats of flooding in the mobile home park as the region continues to expect monsoon rainstorms. The city’s response came after weeks of residents pleading for help to prevent their homes from inundating and potentially suffering severe damage.

As residents demanded help, they repeatedly confronted the same question: Who’s responsible for maintenance of the wash on the northern end of the Grand Acre Mobile Home Park?

While tax rates would be lower under the new tentative budget, the county anticipates it will collect more in tax revenue, due to new construction and newly assessed property values.

If finalized, the tentative budget would also boost all county salaries by 6 percent, the combined result of a 3-percent cost of living adjustment and a three-step advancement on the county’s pay scale.

The Board of Supervisors approved a tentative budget for Fiscal Year 2025 – a decision that would reduce the county’s property tax rate by two cents.
